The 4K AND 3d Thread...

Re: The 4K Thread...

How much "definition" can we take ?

The pictutres already looks better than if you were looking at the real thing with your own eyes .

What do need to see the molecular structure ?

Pretty much it's 4K. Unless you start having 100+ inch TV's being 'the norm' in the future. Then, yeah, you could seen 8K detail. I think the more practical research should be holographic projection (i.e. sans glasses 3D) and panel technology than trying to get past 8k which seems rather pointless.

Jim Cameron is pushing technology now for 3D without glasses ;)
He usually gets things done, so... "yay" :p

Re: The 4K Thread...

perhaps, but it works :)

Right now i'm trying to decide between the sony or the LG.
LG is starting to win out simply because of price...

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/lg-65-c...ic-range-silver-black/4924100.p?skuId=4924100

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/sony-65...h-dynamic-range-black/4804100.p?skuId=4804100

Might I suggest taking the product codes and check the interwebs for a better price....

When I bought my 3D tv I got it for around $600, I did find it at a bunch of other online retailers and most of them wanted between $1100-$1400 ;)
Not to mention the day after I had placed my order, they raised the price with $50.

Re: The 4K Thread...

i've never been one for the patience with bargain hunting. but i will look around a bit.

here is a question...

how come some tvs come with rechargable 3d glasses, others with theater glasses?

Re: 3DTVs

You ain't missin' much. I have a 2012 era 3DTV, and have watched a 3D film...maybe twice? Once was Avatar, and it gave me a real headache. The other time was, I think, a partial watch of Dredd. And that's it. Otherwise, I've watched literally no 3D content, although I have four sets of rechargeable glasses lying around in case I want to host folks. But 3D also gives my wife a real headache too, so we basically never use it.

It was and always will be a stupid gimmick that added nothing to film that wasn't already there. And yes, that includes Avatar, which is probably the best use of 3D.

Have to disagree with you there. I was never on board with the 3D thing, but my new OLED has the capability for it whereas my Pioneer Elite KURO didn't and I have enjoyed the hell out of watching 3D movies on this set. So far I've watched The Force Awakens, The Avengers, Avatar, Star Trek Beyond, Ant-Man and Captain America Civil War in 3D and they have all been an absolute blast. I never thought I'd be a 3D fan, but this TV has totally changed my mind.

Welcome to the dark side :D ;)

Re: The 4K Thread...

All that said, if you can find a true 4K resolution TV at a reasonable price (I say true 4K because some less than reputable manufacturers call it 4K when it's actually more like 2K), then go for it.

EXACTLY!!!! many lower end tv manufacturer use 4K as a selling point because it has the correct # of pixels to call it a 4K, some 1080P tv screens are actually better quality then the lower end 4K TV's.

4K is more appreciated and really meant for the big screens like a 65"+ TV's, it's not as noticeable on a 49" screen, I have a 80" and the 4K is amazing!!! BTW many 4K movies recently released are not true 4K, the Martian for example was filmed and is a true 4K movie and some other titles which will blow your mind away.

Same here, I have a high end THX certified 80" sharp aquos quatron and the 3D is mind blowing!!!! Avatar and Pacific Rims to name a few are spectacular!

Well I'm sure it is absolutely mind-blowing and spectacular, but unfortunately I will never get to see it for myself.

Now, the thing about 3D is that, from what I understand, movies that were filmed in 3D are great, but movies that were filmed in 2D and then later converted to 3D are lacking in image quality on the 3D.

Re: The 4K Thread...

My friend bought a 4K tv and I can't tell the difference tbh. I CAN however tell the difference when it's put to whatever ultra high frame rate setting makes everything look like a soap opera. Not sure why that appeals to anyone, but if it makes them think they're getting better resolution, it's their tv I guess.

all depends what size tv and which model did your friend get? makes a ton of difference when you buy a high end 4k tv. example If you compare a 50" average 4K to a good 1080P tv you wont see much difference, but on a 65"+ screen the difference quite noticeable.

:wacko
No.
4K is a fixed resolution.
Any given resolution has a specific number of pixels.
So either it is 4K, or it isn't 4K.

3840x2160 = 8 294 400 pixels
4K = 9 437 184 pixels

I have a 80" and the 4K is amazing!!! BTW many 4K movies recently released are not true 4K, the Martian for example was filmed and is a true 4K movie and some other titles which will blow your mind away.

I bet your TV isn't actually 4K. And most so called 4K movies released are 2160p, not 4K. The Martian is NOT a true 4K movie. Shot in 5K, visual effects are 2K.

Well I'm sure it is absolutely mind-blowing and spectacular, but unfortunately I will never get to see it for myself.

Nope/possibly. Depends what film/who converted it.

Titanic 3D - nope
Predator 3D - HELL YES. They turned the actors into wax figures with all the DNR.
