Heads up, fellow Canadians. I found these in "The Bargain! Shop", a dollar store/liquidator/old stock outlet store in Blairmore in southern Alberta. Only one ring of bits, but the tier for the absent ring is still there. Also the correct eight fins.
I think they were about 4 bucks and change. Check your dollar stores.

Thanks - rather than going full-on screen accurate (silver paint with a pretty boring black weathering) I tried matching the top piece as well as I could to the actual finish on the collet. Think it worked out quite alright :)

Just an update on the collets discussed in this thread.

The Burnerd MC collets all have 8 fins, which looks to be what was used in the pic of the Salvaged Star Destroyer Capacitor Bearing.
Burnerd have a similar sized collet, the EC range which only has 6 fins, which looks to have been used in some posts here (also in a still from the film shown earlier).
Which shows that several, slightly different props were used in the film.

All EC & MC collets are the same size, but the ranges of collets are distinguished by their "Bore" diameters, IE:-MC range goes from MC2 (1/16"-3/16")-MC13 (1 3/8"-1 1/2").
The EC range is similar. Pic below shows both types together to show fin spacing.
The EC collet in my pic has a spot welded end stop.

Hope this clarifies a few things.

Thank s for the photos and information Tony .
The same part is used in the staff that Rey uses on the movie , ( Star Wars, the force awakens ) but for that build the props department used 3d printed parts .

We still need to identify the ring that goes around the screwdriver part , some people have said it may be an oil seal , but I suspect it's just a 3D printed detail .

Do we have any other photos of the actual prop used in the movie apart from the book one ?

This is not correct. There are MC collets with 6 fins. I have several.

Yeah I Want to do the 8 fin real collet, but I'm not seeing any to buy...

If anyone bought a set and looking to unload one, shoot me a PM!

I am about to sell a couple "full kits". Real collets (have both 8 and 6 ridge versions). Got the tops from Pound Land (they will come with the crappy bits included!) and a resin cast of my 3D printed topper piece. Just need a couple more laser cut rings (thanks to Yarooon for helping me with those) and then I'll fire them up on the Junkyard. I currently have six of each (8 and 6 fins) collets left, so could possibly do 12 full kits.

I'd rather give them to people as complete kits, but let me check my stock and I'll get back to you
