Re: TFA Graflex screenshots bluray

You should repost these up in the research thread...

Agreed. High quality screen shots are much appreciated, but we don't want to divide the discussion amongst two separate threads.

Also, if you could post the clearest frame grab of the (presumably) CGI saber flying through the air towards Rey's hand at the point where the circuit card is clearest that would be great.

Based on the size of the dark spot and the way the reflection/slope appears I'm in the camp of rivets on the screen used sabers.

These are the clearest frames of the clamp card unfortunately

Forgot I already posted it here? http://www.therpf.com/showthread.php?t=237477&page=84&p=3946577&viewfull=1#post3946577

I think it's rivets all around. If they used the SRS and the MR, plus maybe research from the RPF, rivets would be the easiest and most used method.

I've got another still from the moving saber, a little bit clearer perhaps:

And here's a few more interesting stills:

I'm particularly curious about the saber next to Lupita. Would this indicate that at least some of the shots with Maz holding the lightsaber is CGI?

Have you ever tried to use rivets to secure rubber grips? Not very easy...

Didn't the prop guy say they made rubber grips? Am I imagining things?

So with the new shots of the maz scene clampcard, I am seeing not only thin traces on the right, but that they bend 90 degrees to the left just before they meet the clamp, and terminate in a possible via, kind of like the ROTJ V2 card, only they're all identical.

This is what I see, I hate to throw a completely different take in here, but I can't explain away that graphical "bend" I see at the top of the thin trace where it meets the clamp ear. To me, it's one of those "Once I see it, I can't unsee it" kind of things.

Could just be a trick of light and shadow, but I thought I'd mention it.

The wide traces also seem wider than anything we've seen. Not as much gap between the wide traces, or possibly there are more of them.

Also, this just popped up from Disney MGM Studios... Looks like one of Roy's or my cards, to be honest. Not sure which version of the saber this is supposed to be.

I'm definitely seeing right-side thin traces in the flying saber.

On the saber with the tracking markers, I'm thinking that since they had to create a CGI saber anyway for the flying saber shot, it may have been the easiest solution since Maz's hands were CGI...

The one JJ is holding is the grips-to-bottom version that looks to have been used in the deleted Maz-handoff-to-Leia scene, the one scene we've identified so far where the (usually) "outdoor" hero was used for an inside scene.

That second photo is of the same saber that's been at Launch Bay since it opened. It can't be your clamp card (or Roy's) since the replicas weren't made until after that saber originally went on display.

I'm not seeing any "bend" in the traces though. It just looks like something caused from the lighting and contrast effects.
