So, has anyone "built one" yet? What did you go with: rivets, screws, d ring, antenna?
Maybe it's because I have a kind or rusty Graflex, but I like the rusty hex screws look. Am I alone in this?

I have a replica that I went with TFA theme. I never posted finish pics but I used hex head screws, I need to switch over to rivits now...

I'd like to know Jason Ward's source on this, but for now, here's our first confirmation that the 'plug' is in fact involved in the lighting of the blade(s).

I already had an ESB version, just waiting for the Glass Eye to Arrive in the mail, and going to order a Round-End Trace Circuit Board from Slothfurnace if he still has any, since it seems to be the correct one. Oh! almost forgot, need to get me some rivets since I have silver Hex screws instead.

Ah, so it sounds like it's more about being able to adjust the lighting level, rather than on/off or motion capture. Makes sense. Every scene is lit differently and what's good in one situation might be far too bright in another.

I was thinking the same thing at first but then thought why thwart the search for the word Graflex here in the RPF out of all places? Just weird.

They're using what was used in episodes V and VI. Episode III had a machine-shop construction designed to vaguely resemble a Graflex from a distance.
I much prefer the real deal.

Now that's a question that remains to be seen ... when 'the making of TFA' becomes available It's more likely they would use what's been done in ROTS unless those lit stunt blades are indeed sturdy enough to fence with :wacko

If they are using polycarbonate tubes with a 1/8" wall thickness and a 1" outer diameter then it's more than sturdy enough. I have put that stuff to rigorous testing over a 3 month time period and it held up just fine.
Now that's a question that remains to be seen ... when 'the making of TFA' becomes available

If they are in fact using modified Force FX sabers the antennae could be transmitting the saber's sound FX to an on set PA system. This would line up well with the idea of helping the actors immerse themselves into the fight by having them really hear/feel the sounds of their sabers at proper volume.
