Truly, the only tricky part is making the armor vest out of the RRV. To make the process really smooth, you could make a pattern out of scrap cloth, make sure it fits you (over the under vest!) and then, once you have gotten the size and shape just right, use the pattern to cut up the RRV.
Remember to take off and save the binding tape from the edges you cut (an X-acto or seam ripper works great to cut the stitches) so you can glue it back on at the end to re-finish the newly cut edges.
