A few months back, I was contacted by my cousin Melvin. He wanted something to wear to the premiere of The Dark Knight Rises and since he's a little too big to pull off Batman, he wanted to try Bane.
That night, I pulled just about every GOOD shot of Bane that I could source, including a build or two on here. Then, I plotted a course of action for building it including materials, cost, etc.
I'm NOT going to claim that it's accurate, but it WILL look good enough for most.
I started with a 3M dust mask. removed the bits to hold it on and cut out all of the respirator stuff.
I added the grill material from an old car speaker to the front-inside.
To shape it, I decided to use craft foam. I made patterns to cut the foam by comparing sizes and trying to account for curvature and such.
Both sides done.. a quick test...
The plan is to coat it in plastidip. I'd been thinking about trying that for some time and having seen a fellow member use it on a Thor build sealed the deal for me. I would have preferred an Olive Drab plastidip but as that seems to be a color they don't make, I went with black and decided to test it with an OD paint.
I let one test-card cure fully before spraying, the other one, I sprayed wet.
Today, I'm starting to finish the face portion and add the "pipes". On mine they will be painted dowel.
After that, I'll move on to the back of the thing.
and before anyone points out that it's WAY too bright green at the moment, remember, it WILL be olive drab when finished.
