It reminds me of a German military canteen...

... but I have no clue if it might be the German canteen? What do you think and/or know?
But if I am comparing the reference pictures ...

I think with this picture it is clear ...

... it is definitely the German military canteen / cover that is depicted above. They removed only littlebit of the color ...

It's actually a German Mess kit. Metal Canteen, then the top half has a handle for a mug, and the bottom half has grip lines for a bowl.

There are a bunch on Ebay for under $50.

I don't agree... the German Mess kit is different to the German Canteen...

... this is the Mess Kit and ...

... this is the Canteen with the Cover. Of course you can use the cover like a small Mess kit. Trust me, I am still using both in my job
