Re: Taun taun 1:1 scale head WIP

The rpf never ceases to amaze...

Truly great work! If I didn't already have a thousand of these projects on the bench this would be an amazing addition! (y)thumbsup

$350! That's a steal with the great quality and work you put in! Great job!:thumbsup

Re: Taun taun 1:1 scale head WIP

Just finished putting my kit together, which for mine I made a one off neck and positionable mounting system that allows for total range of motion for the head(which means I can make it look anywhere in the room):). I'll begin painting it today, and I'm still trying to find the perfect fur. I'll post the pics when I have something nice to show.

Re: Taun taun 1:1 scale head WIP

very impressive indeed :thumbsup

RussellSculpts, that looks incredible! How much does it weigh in fiberglass? Any chance of a latex mask type casting, or something lighter? I'd like to use a casting for a walking costume, but I don't think I could pull it off with fiberglass... Again, great work!

Yes but price will be determined by the cost of the fur( some can be expensive) and my final mounting system and neck. It will be reasonable though.

It's actually pretty light, about eight pounds head and horns only. I think a latex cast of this might get heavy cause you still would need an under structure to keep it's shape and attach to your costume. plus the mold is silicone so I don't think latex would work in that. I was planning on using mine in a walk around costume, and may incorporate some of the techniques they use in "Walking with Dinosaurs Live action show". They use counter balances with bungies to offset the weight in their walk around dino costumes.

Re: Taun taun 1:1 scale head WIP

Well I got some paint on my taun taun(please ignore the eyes for now, they're just paint tape for position and size). I'm liking it so far and I think I found some fur that will work.

Very cool! I may have to pick one of these up then... Thanks for the information!

Re: Taun taun 1:1 scale head WIP

I got the fur halfway done, it's lookin good! I came up with an even lighter and easier head mount and neck system. I'll be posting pics of that and the completed kit soon. It is big however with the neck, to big really for my small art room, been getting grumblings from the wife on my suggestions on other mounting locations, i.e. the living room or the bedroom. oh well, I'll find a good spot for him!

Re: Taun taun 1:1 scale head WIP

Re: Taun taun 1:1 scale head WIP

Here's what I got so far, still going to tweek the fur by trimming and airbrushing, and add eye lashes and whiskers.

You can see he is quite big, and will definately make for a good costume. Remember, anyone interested please Pm me.

I thought they were a gray color to help blend into their environment.

Could be the lighting, he said he's still working on the fur and mentioned airbrushing, just about all Arctic Animals have a Summer Coat which is Dark and a Winter Coat which is light.
This is the Spring Break Model.

Sure, it's got great Beaches. I think once all the Snow and crap gets on there it could be green.
