TASM Fitness Thread. Get your Spidey Physique tips on exercise and nutrition here!

Re: TASM Fitness Thread. Get your Spidey Physique tips on exercise and nutrition here

Wow two years is a long time. I just got into serious training and nutrition for 5 months now. And I recently realized the result not gonna come in just few months like I used to think, except you on the juice haha

I saw that you're working on your spidey suit. Good luck man! Im running into problem with mine but hopefully get it done in time for the movie.

We're both in the same situation then haha. I've only started eating right for two years. I've started seriously working out around 177 days ago. I'm still on the up and up. Gotta lot of work ahead.
Like you, I hope to be in spidey shape before the premiere.
If you're ever near California, let me know and we'll plan out a convention.
Cheers mate

So discussion time what do you guys think of target keto diet for bulking, I radically was swayed by my friend to try it with him, I'm on my 3 rd day of induction, been keeping my carbs top 20 grams and fats being the highest, it actually really really hard not to consume carbs. after a week Ill start checking for ketones in my system.

Its sound like a pretty extreme diet. I think people would only jump on this diet if they prepare for bodybuilding contest. Sticking with this diet in the long run can be unhealthy for your heart since it contains only fat and protein. Also you won't make any muscle gain on this diet because your insulin level is low which is resulted from low carbs intake.

I have to agree. Now, another factor to consider is, that you NEED carbs for energy. The actual trick to losing weight is that you are at a calorie deficit - you burn more calories than you consume. That, proper rest, and exercise. No extreme diets, that's crazy.

Your heart, kidneys and brain prefer ketones over glucose so in essence it would be healthier, but I do agree this diet should only last 2-3 months to cut bf% prolong use is actually not recommended. Using targeted Keto diet it is possible to bulk by carb loading before and after a workout but your right it is extreme.

your body in a state of ketosis uses fat as energy. I view it as another course of action no different from people who intake low fat diets, when you cut on a defecit based diet based of carbs, proteins and low fats your body looks for energy in this order Carbs, Proteins and fats last, so there is muscle loss when cutting especially if your macros are not lined up. On a defecit diet based on keto, when you body switches over to producing ketones it looks for fat, carbs then protein last, so muscle retention is greater during a cut using keto.

I in no way am bashing traditional diets, what works, works. I lost most of my initial weight counting cals and using a defecit. Im currently at 6'0 155 lbs 13-14% by putting myself in a keto I can cut to at least 9% without losing muscle, I only plan to do this for 2 months at most then Im going to meticulous bulk for 3 month then back on keto for 2 months.

keep it up spideys!

Yea really want to see your result at the end of the keto diet. Just wondering what do you eat on this diet? I can imagine replace all grain with meat and stuffs....seem costly

Currently I'm going through withdrawal of carbs, which is causing my body to be abit sore but manageable with pre-work out drinks giving me some caffeine, Ive been actually finding more endurance in the gym since Ive switched my diet over. Im eating at maintenance, with nuts, healthy oils, steak, bacon, chicken, pork and good ol natural peanut butter. now as was pointed out earlier by morbius666 the key to losing or gaining weight ultimately rests on calories in and out it is the ultimate rule. eating fat wont make you fat, consuming 3000-4000 cals a day mixed with fat, carbs and proteins will.

I can understand seeing this as extreme, I thought it was to at first, but Its no more extreme then people who fast, or go on liquid diets, or work out first thing when they get up or even people who go on low fat diets. Ill report my progress at it comes along, if I fail and gain weight tbh its more fat to help sculpt my body because at 155 thats pretty low lol

Thought I'd share my story so far, since I'm currently working out to get to spidey shape.

I'm 5'10", started off at 198 pounds (about 90-95kgs), 34-36" waist.

I'm not fat or chubby in any way, but in order to be the best Spidey I can be, I decided that I wanted to drop a few waist sizes, lose 15kgs and sit at around 8-9% body fat. That's my end goal.

To meet these goals, I've employed the services of a Personal Trainer (not cheap, but totally worth it!) to train me twice a week, and he's also set me up on a home fitness plan, so I work out about 6 times a week. 2 of these sessions a week are gym-based, so I hit the weights hard, the other 2 home sessions are bodyweight-based, so I do a lot of crunches, pushups, tricep dips and jumping jacks.

All my workouts are HIIT, so I smash out as much as I can on a particular exercise for 30 seconds, then move onto the next one and do a few circuits like that. It means that I can do a full workout in 20 minutes and get on with my day.

Along with working out, I'm also on a clean-eating plan, currently two weeks in. A lot of chicken, salmon, spinach and other leafy greens makes up the bulk of my diet, with protein shakes to supplement my workouts.

After two weeks, I've already had a very noticeable drop in body fat, and have dropped a pants size (all my pants are almost falling off now!), so I'm definitely on the right track.

Alright guys... I'm on board since it's the beginning of the year. I'm fortunate in that I'm one of those blessed guys with a high metabolism, but I'm 40 and time has caught up to me, so even though I'm only 145 lbs, I've got a little bit of a tummy. I'm eating better (almost killed all soda and sweets intake, my weakness) and started up P90X. This is hard for me because I've always just skated by on my genes, but I really want to get in shape. Send some good vibes my way!

Joshspiderman- here's good luck to you. Something you might look into is John Kiefer's Carb Backloading program. I hear it works well for a lot of people. Ketosis is definitely fun- I always have a great deal of energy in this state, but I don't feel any improvements in quality or quantity of gains. Maybe it'll work for you- who knows? Good luck to all the Spidermen out there- looking forward to the TASM 2 premier.

Hello everyone, first i'd like to high five all of you for being so motivated. Im looking for help from you guys to achieve a somewhat spidey physique. Im 5'9" , around 170 pounds. My main problem is that my fat is concentrated in my belly. Ive been strugling for years to loose it even if it appears to be a family thing. Not to help , im working nightshifts and my meals are very very irregular but no junk food . Im also a bit henched or "bent" wich put my belly even more noticeable. I just got a jumping rope to get back the good cardio i used to have and to sweat a little bit, even if im well aware it's not enough.

There is no such an exercise that will target fat loss in your belly only. The only way to get rid of that belly fat is by strip down fat from your whole body. Best way is to going into caloric deficit and stay active such as playing sport if you don't have time to work out. And you're right its also the genetic thing, some people will have nicer looking abdominal than others.

Good luck!

Thanks for the answer, I've read here about caloric deficit but i'm not sure i understand very well how to go into it. Also do i need products like proteins shakes or such ?

Its actually very simple if you get a hang of if. Basically you set your calories goal for a day and try to follow it. You gonna have to get in the habit of reading label of everything you eat. What you need to do now is to find out your current calories intake for a day and just eat less than that. The main key is to play around with it, if you lose few pound every months then you're on the right track. Calories tracker app such as myfitnesspal will make it much easier.

Here is a video that helped me in the beginning. They will talk about proten/carb/fat ratio.

And honestly you don't have to buy any supplement products if you can't afford them. Don't fall into those supplement companies's trap....eat whatever you want as long as it fits your calories goal. The reason why I take protein shake is because its much more convenient than sitting down and eat chicken breasts :D
