Re: TASM Fitness Thread. Shirts off Challenge continues! YOU CAN DO IT by NOV 4

Find a beginner weight training program to follow (not just a vague number of pushups) and increase your protein and caloric intake by a mile. Get a proper program put together by someone with experience, like Strong Lifts or Starting Strength, and stick to it diligently for long enough for your body to train and grow. While eating a TON of clean fuels and lots of protein. Faffing around with "per day" numbers won't help you nearly as much as a structured workout plan will.

Pushups are great exercises and good for you, but they're not great for gaining mass specifically. Or course any challenging and consistent exercise will train your muscles to develop and respond, but certain lifts and weights are much much better for gaining mass.
For example, I can do 200 pushups in a row and execute between 400 and 500 pushups on training days, which is more than anyone else I know, and yet I am still a very lean and slim person, much smaller than most people I can crush in a pushup competition. I'm not training for size, so my regimen is not one I would recommend for someone trying to get gains that are 140% of their current weight. That person (you) needs to be building a strong strength platform first on which to then lift heavier and heavier weights in compound lifts. You need barbells and oats and chicken.

Here's a good starting resource for you:

I have a really good Spidey physique. About 6'1 175 lbs. I do need to start working out again to get some mass and muscle back. Thankfully, ordering a print from McLean will likely inspire me to do so!

Compound exercises = win!

I'm only about 72kg in weight but I was deadlifting and squatting 121kg last week, my new personal best :)

Still working at getting that 'Spidey' physique, now to work on the costume!

I know this is a Spidey thread, but does anyone have any diet and/or exercise regime for bulking? I'm wanting to gain and keep a Bane/Batman/Wolverine/any big, muscled, bulked-up physic for my Batman costume that I will soon be working on, thanks :)

Whatever you are eating now, eat more.
Good foods, no cr@p.

You need to take in nearly 30g of protein and carbs with every meal iirc.
Protein shakes ftw, I'm on a bulk atm, I eat nearly every 3 hours and take 2 of these a day.

Combine each ingredient into a blender/mixer
2 cups milk
2 tablespoons natural peanut butter
1 large banana
2-3 scoops chocolate whey protein
1 cup oats
1 scoop creatine

Blend together until smooth and enjoy! 800+ calories loaded with protein and carbs and healthy fats.
I'm trying to take in just over 3.5k calories a day.

Thanks Mr Parker, I'm already planning on going to the store tonight, looks like I'll need to go to the bank and get a little extra cash, lol :)

Re: TASM Fitness Thread. Get your Spidey Physique tips on exercise and nutrition here

I don't know if you've seen Star Trek- Into Darkness, but if you do a comparison of Sherlock from the current BBC series ('Sherlock'), and compare to Khan from STID, the actor claims to have eaten around 4000 calories per day, in 'nothing but chicken-' given his success, it sounds like clean eating and 'intense shape lifting' are the way to go. Keep in mind, however, that they had the Cumberbatch (the actor) run quite a bit as well, near the end.

Thanks, Mr. Parker- Thats what I came here for- bulking. I'm building myself in Super Soldier shape for this summer's con season, and so I was wanting advice on diet (which I know is the most important part)! Any other advice would be appreciated, and I'll go back and read through the older posts. Thanks!

In all Chicken, wow. I eat a LOT of mince type meals as they are easy to prepare and I'm getting sick of Mince now, might move onto Chicken.

Compound exercises are the way to go man, they'll add on mass like crazy, just remember...

Eat, Lift, Sleep, Repeat...

Drink plenty of water too, that's important.

Just a helpful tip for those spidermen looking to get lean- disgusting as it may sound, one scoop mycellar creme chocolate casein with one packet berry propel water flavoring, some water and a handfull of ice, blended smooth, makes for a surprisingly delicious, filling, 100 calorie snack. The more you know...

This site and the people never seem to stop amazing me. First off all the unbelievable work done on here. Then all the support everyone gives each other on here. I just found this thread and am so very impressed in support that goes above and beyond just costume but actually being able to fit in that costume, lol. I am subscribing. I can't fit into one costume I had made and I really want to, so here's to my adventure starting. I'm 6'5 and 320lbs, my goal is......well the same height :lol but 250 by summer. Thanks for the support guys.

Hey guys, I'm new to RPF in general but I've actually been trying to gain weight, like most of you to fill out the spidey suit. I'm 5'11 165lbs, 3-4 months ago I was 150lbs. I'll see if I can scrounge up some pics and post a little later on. I'm getting my suit later this week, will post pics of it then.

Re: TASM Fitness Thread. Get your Spidey Physique tips on exercise and nutrition here

Before my break, After the gym, I used to eat 4 full chicken breasts that I'd stir fry, with noodles, peppers and cashew nuts; take me about 45 mins to finish. I'd do this about 4 times a week. I got decent tone and some bulk, probably would have gotten bigger had I not stopped.

I'm finding it quite difficult to continue 1) I stopped 2) I can't quite do 4 breasts a day now, having to do 2 a day.

I've been trying to do this without protein shakes etc as I feel that people rely on them too much these days. But I'm determined to step up and I've now added cardio to my workouts. So, still a work in progress/proof of concept.

Yep I know that feeling....bulking really suck but its the only way to make some more gain.

And yes I keep the usage of whey protein to minimum as every time I take it my stomach doesn't feel right so my body not really absorbing it. Stay with lean meat is better but can be time consuming compared to protein shake.

It might be a horrible feeling and can be hard going but keep with it.

Your body is brilliant at adapting to change.

6/7 months ago I was used to feeling hungry often and if I ate enough to fill 'full' it was a weird sensation, now that has done a complete 180.
I'm now used to feeling full all the time and if I start to feel hungry it's a really weird sensation, my body's way of saying "Oi, I need sustenance!".

I'm on the protein, I don't think that there's anything wrong with 'supplementing' your diet with protein shakes, they weren't meant o be relied on anyway.
You get most of your protein and carbs from your diet, the shakes are just away of topping up so you don't run down on what your body needs when repairing itself after a workout.
---

I've been a bit slack recently, not worked out as much as I should have done and not eaten as much as I need, want to get back into the swing of things.

You don't need to 'rely' on the protein shakes, but they are an easy (and relatively cheap) way to get that extra protein in - like you said you can't do 4 chicken breasts a day now.

My winter diet always turns bad (the colder weather just makes me crave more carbs) but I'm slowly seeing some slow gains in size, I just hope I can keep some of it once I start back on a strict diet when spring come around. I'm not going for a spidey physique so a bit more size is good for me.

I can do the 4 breasts everyday, just need my appetite to get back to normal after the GI sickness. It's slowly getting there but I am using the protein shakes now. My God, whey chocolate flavour does not even remotely taste like chocolate, or anything nice for that matter, when mixed in water. In milk, it tastes not that bad, more due to the taste of the milk. The proof of concept has now been altered to "so let's see what all the fuss is about".
