Tapered Staff? (need help sourcing materials)

Hey guys, I'm working on a staff build right now, and while I have the head of the staff nearly complete and ready for molding:

I'm at a loss as to what to do for the actual "staff" part of it. I need a tapered dowel rod around 40" long that tapers from 1.25" to .75" along the length.

My lathe can only take sections 12" long or shorter, and I'd rather not daisy chain these things together... I'm willing to give a little on the dimensions if I can find something that works for my needs.

Anyone have any suggestions where I might find a ready-made example?

Pool cue makers?

IIRC, copies of Malfoy's Cane were about those dimensions. Might be you can get one of the cheap knock-offs and tailor it?

Pool cue is a GREAT idea, it can even break down for transport, or I could find a whole one. Thanks!
