Sylvie (Loki series) costume piece ID’s

Has anyone cut and sewn the gloves yet?

Yes! It was an easy mod.

Thanks for sharing these! Now that I see how this mockup is constructed, I think I'm seeing evidence that the fastenings are in the same place on the final version. Most of the shots are from her right side, as the good side of the armor. The seam on the left side of the front (as worn, where the zipper is in the early version) sits a little wider than that on the right, and in a couple of shots I think I can see the top band lifted away slightly behind her arm. Plus, a front fastening might be easier to put on and take off unless you have a long zipper pull.
I'm planning to do at least a test version in foam, potentially to do a leather version when I'm satisfied with my pattern. Does anyone have thoughts about how the leather is sewn or glued together?
So, for my vest, I'm working on a foam base (already constructed) and I did some tests in which I barged black duck canvas onto some of my extra foam. Worked great! I'm about to draw the patterns out for the top of the vest and when I assemble thos I will have strips of canvas underneath / in between the leather pieces. So: Foam, Canvas, Leather. Will try to add some photos here soon!

I'm certain this is an early mockup draft of the chestpiece due to the different straps on the back but it's still interesting to see how it was constructed in regards to where the fasteners are located. I know it was made with Sophia in mind but I am considering just going with a zipper up the back. Also take note of how some of the panels aren't connected on the bottom. I noticed this on the show; I think this was done to aid in ease of movement.

In the final the side piece on the left actually green leather pleather (this pic is from earlier in the thread)

Also looking at this pic of the final it looks like the closure is different then the mockup at least somewhat because you can see how it lifts away. from the rest and I can almost guarantee the part that goes under the arm is where the closure starts. And it looks like the whole upper chest piece might be separate.

Has anyone ID’d any buckles / clasps or other small hardware?

As well: what is the actual paint colour applied to the boot soles? It looks everywhere from white to yellow to orange in various lighting. Hmmm…
I definitely feel like the shoulder strap hardware are something like these maybe the more rounded variety?
For her pants, my sister pointed out that the wrap (which I hadn't noticed yet) was similar in function to the one on Jemma Simmons' servitor costume from Agents of SHIELD season 5. My mother and I have made that costume twice (we destroyed the first for a season 6 costume variant) and basically what we did was use a Butterick pattern for the pants themselves, then drafted out the wrap on paper using screencaps as our guide. When we made the pants, we added the wrap in one of the leg side seams and waistline. Sorry for a shoddy explanation but hopefully it can provide inspiration! I've got photos of our design process somewhere, but for now here's photos of the costume on the show and the one we made for reference. I can post photos of the pants themself if anyone wants.

These are SUPER close!! I still feel their design in general are inspired by thai fisherman pants! I did find a pattern that's close-ish as well here
Any idea on what the top of her shirt/shoulderpads is made out of? I'm a novice seamstress so I don't have a lot of experience in identifying different types of fabric. I was also discussing her chestpiece with a few people and taking note of the canvas base as seen on the costume designer's Instagram (the post was deleted but a friend grabbed photos beforehand, I can post if anyone is interested--it showed the chestpiece under construction) and wondering just how much is leather and how much is other material. I'm looking into using actual leather for my build if I can (I'm worried about faux leather cracking in the future and I don't have a good history with foam). I've been studying screencaps of it all and it's all mostly a mystery to me.

I usually go with Mood for fabric, so I'll probably hit them up first.
I'm pretty sure it's either pleather/leather or some sort of stretch for the collar (I know I saw someone mentioning it). I used the same stuff for my sleeves but I didn't do the circle on my first version. I think the sleeves are some sort of actual leather with a stiffer leather under the forearm to allow for the design to be possible. I have some ideas and when I work on it I'll try to make sure to post progress. Also for the shoulders its' definitely a quilted leather/pleather, but keep in mind the outer binding of them don't have the quilted pattern. The fabric that was found is great but if you want 100% accuracy (or close to it) that's something to consider.

Have you thought about taking an exacto blade to the Cross X part to get rid of that? (that's my plan) these look great though and I can't wait to do mine!! What kind of paint did you use?

Has anyone found a good wig yet? The one I used is nice but the part is actually a side part and I wear it crooked xD it works but it'd be nice to have one that I can wear properly. Here's the link to the one I have if anyone else is willing to be a little weird with how it's worn. Unfortunately it's not available rn but it might be again at some point?

Also sorry for the multiple posts xD I JUST figured out how to quote multiple things. I just found a pair of the boots from Lane Crawford. I think I got the last size 40 (pray for me they 1. actually have them, they do a check after the order is input, and 2. they fit) but they still have some EU size 36 & 37 available? Has anyone had any luck finding an alternative when these are impossible to find?

I appreciate this whole thread so much. You guys are all great and we're making amazing progress figuring all this out! So much love to all of you <3

I used Silver Angelus paint for the rubber bits on the gloves. I already had some on hand and I think it’s a good match!

I have also been experimenting with the lower portion of her sleeve where the circles are. I’m not even gonna try to get those stitch lines but with enough pressure and the right glue, it should look really good. See photo of foam and pleather mock up. I’ve since had much better success using leather instead of foam and using a “jig” for help with the gluing, but I don’t have any photos yet.

oh wow nice! Is the part making a shape on the inside foam too? This was kind of what I was going to test out too so it's great to see it in practice!

Here’s some photos that hopefully help show what I did. The angles aren’t the best sorry! Leather pieces were cut on my laser. I cannot cut perfect circles by hand

The idea of faux suede on the inside seems visually interesting, but would add a lot of weight, yeah? Also, if it is a synthetic fabric: a lot of extra heat. I would imagine this would cause the cloak to "stick" to the garments below and not "swoosh" as you might like. THAT SAID: have you tried this before? I could be waaaay off on my conjecture... and can always stand to learn a new thing or two!
Yes, agree with timetoparquet. the faux suede lining will add a lot of weight and retain body heat compared to a more traditional satin or cotton lining. It will also tend to stick to your body rather than "swoosh" properly, if you want your cloak to "swoosh."

If anyone is still looking, the sale price on the SA gloves ends today (women’s XS, M, L). (I have seen a really neat amethyst version in other sizes elsewhere.)

I have a couple extra pair in Medium, if anyone needs any, please let me know. Also, I would love to trade up for a pair in Large, if anyone has them: send me a note. Thanks!!

Also, for the leather front panels: is that braiding in the channels of the fronts (with gold end bits)? Flat rope? Shoelaces? Ha!

I think it's just the canvas showing through! But don't quote me on that. I'm still trying to figure out how the canvas and the leather all work together and just how much canvas is used and where.

I realize now that you were talking about her shoulder pads! It looks like quilted vinyl that's often used in car upholstery but it has a tighter/smaller diamond quilt pattern than what I've been able to find so far. Here's an example from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CR15YLK/?coliid=I28QX88EPRO19T&colid=NU68KSM6HH60&psc=1

This looks excellent! Thank you so much! I know this wouldn't have the correct edging so I may just have to go with regular leather and do the stitching myself; my mom (the superior seamstress out of the two of us) did something very similar when she modded a collar for a jacket on another costume of mine.

I bought this wig with the intention of cutting and styling it a bit more, but I'm a little wary of the quality due to the price. Also I bought it a week ago and it still hasn't shipped, so I'm like uhhhhhh despite the website saying shipping times may be delayed due to the pandemic. I'll keep you guys updated if it actually ships.

This looks FANTASTIC. I'm definitely going to have to try something like this! And possibly find someone who has a laser cutter!

Also what are people's thoughts on using pleather vs real leather? I'm wary of pleather because I had a screen accurate pleather jacket literally disintegrate after about 5 years of ownership, so when I build this costume I want to build it to last (hopefully for awhile). But I'm aware that real leather gets pricey. Are there types of pleather that are more sturdy than others?

I'm in a Loki Facebook group as well and listed these on my Etsy by request: Sylvie Sleeve Detail No obligation obviously, just throwing that out there :)

Pleather would tend to be warmer, yeah?

I just got my gloves in. Did you use any type of solvent to get the Dakine logo off or did you use an xacto knife?

I would think so, yeah. And every costume I make I think about the heat and humidity at DragonCon.
You can use acetone, alcohol, or a heat gun. Heat gun is easiest! I used pliers to peel it off and it will most likely come off in pieces or one letter at a time.
