I've been watching this through Lexicanum and therpf now for a few days (lurk lurk). As someone prepping to go down this same path myself, I realized I have a question!

When you ordered your Foam, what dimensions and thickness did you purchase? Looking at the website you listed, there are some decent price differences. And while it looks like you got 1/2 inch, 3/8 is easy to misjudge.

I ordered all of my foam in 1/2" thickness and in the biggest sheets they had.. I supplemented with "foamies" craft foam sheets for the thinner detail stuff.

Yeah that's what I assumed.

Good luck with the vapor method, I lack an adequately ventilated area to attempt that in!

Ya, LOL, I'm going to try not to kill myself. I'll be shopping for a large enough air-tight jar this evening. I plan on doing this in the office and going outside to open the jar.

I don't think you want to do it in a sealed container. The health hazard comes from breathing acetone fumes, so you want a ventilated space to disperse those fumes. And the property hazard comes from the fact that acetone fumes are slightly flammable. Though I've seen people intentionally ignite them to see what the actual hazard potential is, and it's not that bad. Personally I'd be more worried about breathing the fumes than accidentally burning my eyebrows off.

Its just a foam ring added for embellishment. It has no purpose. It's white so it sticks out like a sore thumb right now.

Ah, okay. Well, I'm sure it will look perfect once painted. All of your other detail work is inspired.

Supply shopping. A commenter convinced me to go buy some proper skulls. I cut one in half and the replaced my carved one on the backpack. I also bought myself some beautiful fabric for the purity seal parchment pieces. Joann had a great find in the scraps section.

I also made a few more purity seals gave them a bath in acetone and did some weathering on them.

Tonight I revisited my Terminator honors crux. I added a proper skull, and some bevels. I am much happier with it. Thanks shadowwolf for the inspiration. I also recieved my Mega Stomp Panic. This thing is fun. I rigged it up temporarily, cut some speaker holes into my ab section and did some video testing that link can be found here:

I am also in the process of printing up a better fist purity seal. I decided that flat relief wasn't good enough, so I whipped up a new model with a fully sculpted fist. Should be much cooler.

Tis the season, get them now. Spirit halloween is up and running for Halloween. I picked them up there, the small ones are $2 each. The large was $5 at Walgreens. That one was an impulse buy

Will you be making a power fist as well? Being part of the Crimson Fists, it's like your duty to have a big red power fist Might be something to add once you finish the stock suit.

My weapons loadout will be plasma pistol and powerfist. Costume first though.

I am finishing up my foam work still. Reinforcing bits that need extra support. Tonight was a lot of work on the cod. Most of this stuff is boring stuff no one will ever see or know about but myself, but I want this thing to be as well constructed as I can manage. I want it to last, like the hand it down to your children, kind of last.

The Mega Stomp Panic is all situated now. I added a holder and a resonance chamber that directs sound directly out of one of the torso vents. I also did some acetone melting of the improved fist purity seal. It looks way cooler than my flat relief version. You can peek my purity seal fabric as well. I am working on good ways to transfer text onto the fabric too.

Here's a good mechanic that might work for the huge articulated "hand" part of the powerfist (obviously adapted from wooden steampunk):

The acetone worked pretty well for transferring text to fabric. So well I made a little tutorial for everyone.

For now it does. It might change in the future. I have too many other things to work for now
