SyFy's Heroes of Cosplay

I know we filmed a ton more process behind the costumes than the show aired. We also were given diary cams for filming when they couldent be there. I saved all of my footage. I am hoping to be able to post it soon.

YES! Please do share. :D

Yeah we have a RPF Youtube channel so I guess contact Art Andrews and he can probably help you out if you don't want to post it on your own.

I watched the finale today. I almost didn't finish. Even knowing what I know, and trying to view it through the prism of "semi-factual vaguely reality-based entertainment," it was hard not to just turn it off in disgust. I fast-forwarded through a lot of it. There was just so much fakery and manufactured drama. "Oh, Becky's eye got messed up? Riiiiight." "Riki is sick and throwing up? Suuuuure." It was like watching politicians talk, like "You know this is a lie, and I know it's a lie, yet you're saying it with a straight face, and expecting us to believe you?" And you know they'll get away with it because people are stupid.

That said, I wish all the cast members the best, and wish the producers would go fornicate themselves.

I feel dirty. I'm going to take a shower and then go work on something.

So does this mean you guys are not under any non-disclosures?

"Riki is sick and throwing up? Suuuuure."

actually I was incredibly sick on sunday, especially monday and almost for a week after PCC. the problem was at the time of filming I was working 2 job, raising/rescuing 3 baby squirrels, attend conventions, filming during the week as well as trying to finish costumes. The finale dress took me a lot of time between sculpting, molding, casting, making the blue over dress AND doing the backdrops. Not to mention practicing my skit when I could. I was just run down and it caught up with me at the convention. Also due to the short time I had to make it, my Dress was still Degassing in my hotel room and while I was wearing it which didn't help my nausea.

Thing that pissed me off the most is I didn't even get to eat Kansas city BBQ.. *shakes fist*
Enjoy your shower :D

Keep up the good work RPF, your still always my first recommendation for place to go to learn awesome things from awesome people :)

Its fair enough that some parts may be real. To an extent. But in a show thats so fake I think thats what makes it difficult to believe. Hearing the wrenches etc always makes it come across false. And im not sure you can say... but would be interested to know although you were ill. Wether you re acted being ill for the cameras. Or made it more dramatised. Weve all felt a little sick now and again. But its rarely the end of the world. When you talk about soldiering on like its life or death it makes the eyes roll.

It probably loses you sympathy that the stories being thrown about involve dubbing over other cosplayers voices to make it seem like you were being picked on. And a show also that has someone talking about everyones right to do cosplay. Then have everyone informed a skit is needed with little prepare time to give you an unfair advantage. I wasnt their so wont take sides.

Im not saying any of its your fault. But being the stars of a show that contradicts itself and over fakes it constently. Your going to get targeted.

This all being said. I thought the whole Alice thing was excellent and you all did very well with this weeks costumes.

Kinway was my favourite though. Partly because of my love for Creed.

Hopefully I can post process pics of some of the stuff we did on the show pretty soon. :) I just need to dig them up out of my computer.

I have done 3 foam fabrication costumes, and find it is a really fulfilling form of costuming.
In a way it makes me feel closer to God, but that might be the heat stroke from wearing the costumes too long.
I hope I haven't developed any drain bamage...

I was really impressed with your Galaxy Quest fabrication. Seeing you gals use that high viscosity spray gun made me get one for spraying my latex. I have not gotten to use it yet, but I hope it saves me time on my builds.

Your Kaiju head sculpt was very well done.
Was the Kaiju head two parts?
In the show the top was over the jaw, and I could not help but think, "That would be crazy hard to mold with that big mouth hole."
It looked like the top of the head was separate from the jaw so you could mold each part easier; was it?

I really want to see how you planned the Kaiju. I am curious about the concept designs.
I was not a fan of how it turned out. It would help me understand certain choices you made while fabricating it.

And the part of the candy car going missing? The crown 'accidentally' falling off? The baldrick breaking just before going on stage? There were others but I was busy rolling my eyes and swearing when they kept popping up. There seemed to be an amazing number of terrible problems that just cropped up when it was dramatically convenient. Either this is the most unlucky group of cosplayers ever, or there was dramatic license with everything going on.

My Baldric did not break, it just came unsnapped. Honest truth on that one I couldn't believe it, first time it did it all damn day.

I was in the audience during the skits, Yaya's crown did fall off. I felt it was fitting in the skit, in the background Riddle was drinking the potion. It looked to me to be part of the show.. idk.

I dont know anything about the car, I was not on that episode.

The one thing I can say is there is a lot more crazyness going on beyond standard con stuff as we are constantly under the camera and production crew. It can get to you having a camera filming you all day long.

Could have been worse, your pants could have fallen off. :lol

...At least something like a baldric is usually a pretty quick fix and doesn't require specialist knowledge to put back on if it happens to come undone.

Also I second (Or 3rd, I guess) the sentiment of posting those videos if you can. That would be fantastic to see some of the stuff that YOU guys thought was cool.

When a buddy of mine was on the Real World, and especially after he was kicked out of the house but allowed to stay on the show, they gave him a diary cam...he used it to shoot a war movie...which was so "him." So, I know those things tend to be much better representations of the person than what the editors end up showing us.

And bravo for wading through this thread. haha

$5 says one of them dies next season and comes back several episodes later only for us to find out it was their twin.

Honestly, I enjoyed the show because I enjoyed the PEOPLE but not how they interacted with each other. Everyone on it made awesome costumes (I especially love Jesse's AC costume). Great craftsmanship. Too bad it was drowned out with made up drama making the people on the shows look worse than they really are.

Also, I was introduced to Jinyo's work thanks to HoC. Would love a show about him.

yeh I actually saw a vid from the audience of the skit before i saw the show and during the show it fell off, she bent down, picked it up whilst riddle was doing her bit and it just kept flowing. didn't look intentional to me, but it certainly didn't effect the performance.

on the show it was edited like the world ended and everyone was looking round wondering 'oh how are they going to re-cover from this?' making it look a lot worse than it was.

same when they asked riddle about her rockeeter costume. they edited in the whole 'I forgot what to say' thing when actually there was no pause and she just answered. what I don't get is why she went along with it? Did no one turn around and say 'err I didn't say that' or 'I don't like how this shows me'

I really hate that mentality from syfy.. does it really create 'good' television? people are talking about it sure, but i really wish they'd shown you guys in your true lights and not caricatures of them.

looking forward to you being able to post up some build vids; now that's what would be interesting to see :)

She should probably just go ahead and do a "how-to" thread or YouTube video on it because I guarantee there are going to be more people asking about it.

Basically how I left the show was actually liking most of the people in the end.
I wish they would have shown more of the actual working process instead of SyFy focusing on how to make everyone's lives hell. Like, it is obviously so heavily edited that I was taking everything happening for granted at the end of it all.

I really would have loved to see more on Holly & Jessica's costuming process along with Riki's costuming process. I'm dying with wondering the flexibility and comfort of a urethane dress, since if it isn't all too bad, I'd like to apply that to perhaps making a Nami cosplay from League.

Won't lie, it ended up actually being a pretty addicting show.
I still wish it would have been a tad more like FaceOff, however, with seeing at least more of the process of everything.

I also agree fully with the thought of Jinyo having a show.
Like... Jinyo, Holly, Jessica, Riki and her boy... All of them having a show where they just make stuff.

I actually wish face off had more of the process :D which they could easily do if they removed all the repeated 'you make a mould by covering it with a cement like substance' and 'the person going home is....' repeated over and over again (only as far as watching season 3 at the moment so don't know if that's improved or not in the later ones)

I must admit I did warm to the HoC crew a lot in the end. holly and jessica seemed like they were having a good time and no panic attacks which was nice to see. much preferred to see them all having a good time making their costumes and having a laugh with friends rather than the manufactured drama syfy puts in.

Although it did amuse me when yaya did her 'we do this for fun' speech and then in the same scene 'I MUST WIN!!! THAT'S WHAT'S IMPORTANT!!' :D

the skits were great though obviously highly weighted in the Heroes favour

in all the series was a good idea. they just need to focus more on the actual reality side and no created drama. in other words, a docu-series rather than reality tv.
