SW Acolyte in a tail spin

I'm speaking about fictional heroes, though you do bring up an interesting point about real people/ historical figures. I categorize them differently in my mind.

And how much of what is known or taught about the historical figure is real. I've just finished listening to TCMs podcast about John Ford and they bring up The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance and the line, "When the legend becomes fact, print the legend." I feel it's popular now to go back and try to tear down historical figures by pointing out all their flaws. Maybe, just maybe, we don't need to be reminded that they are flawed people like the rest of us. But I also remember Mel Blanc saying Bugs Bunny is who we wish we were; Daffy Duck is who we are.

I'm fine with exploring historical figures, warts and all, but we need to remember to put it in context to the time they lived to give us perspective on it. It's easy to make judgements about a person who lived thousands of years ago, but we're often looking at their beliefs/ actions through our modern perspective and trying to apply that to a time and place where it doesn't fit.

Context, whether in fiction or history, is key. Sadly that's typically lost on a great majority of people.

Folks even do it now when they visit other countries and don't respect the cultures or their rules, and get mad when the locals speak their own language on their own soil.
They're often quippy smartasses to boot, which is fine in moderation, but it's difficult to take them seriously when they're constantly snarky. It's annoying in real life, and that translates to fiction too.
Maybe they need snark repellent. :D

That would be a problem then for Luke in RotJ and Anakin in RotS.
The crystal wasn’t exposed for those two. They made a huge point of showing the broken saber (revealing the crystal) so Osha could touch and bleed it

It was one of the cooler moments, so of course it made everyone mad.

So, I hear that Kyber Crystals now act like “Mood Rings” and can produce different blade colors, dependent upon the overall mood of the user?

Awesome.

This gives the actors license to not have to express any emotion. I see the color, now I know how the character feels. Easy peasy.

The way the Force and Jedi/ Sith powers have been exploited for wow factor has gotten so trivial that the appeal wears thin. Whether they can fly through the vacuum of space without protection, or change the geological makeup of rocks to express their mood, it's gotten to the point of absurdity. Death has no agency in these stories anymore, why not just make everyone immortal?

I don't think anyone is sincerely angry over it so much as finding it unnecessary or dumb, or both.

Bleeding the kyber crystal is much more appealing than simple synthetic crystals IMO. I think it was a good choice, which was introduced in 2017. We have seen this already in Comics, Jedi Fallen Order and now Acolyte.

I agree, though I think it gets forgotten when it comes to fictional characters and in some regards the Star Wars franchise as a whole.

I prefer it too.
It’s not helped by people perpetuating nonsense like “mood ring” quips though. I will say however, that how it was done in The Acolyte bothered me.

"This constant lying is not aimed at making the people believe a lie,but at ensuring that no one believes anything anymore.A people that can no longer distinguish between truth and lies cannot distinguish between right and wrong. And such a people, deprived of the power to think and judge,is, without knowing and willing it, completely subjected to the rule of lies. With such a people, you can do whatever you want".

It bothered me too, but it was more the way the crystal was exposed by hitting a rock?, just made the hilt look too weak. I don't mind the bleeding process not being more flashy or dramatic like in the comics though.
