Hey all,

I was lucky enough to get in on the run of one of the beautiful knives from Hydin's run (quality workmanship) and thought how should I display it....

This was my initial concept using really old dried out wood with cracked edges (unfortunately for some reason I can't find any as of yet here but still looking!)

Here is where it stands at the moment. This is done using wooden floor board pieces (laminate I believe). I still need to trim the edges to get rid of the excess and weather/damage the wood a bit more. If I can find the proper wood I am looking for I will upgrade but hope it gives people some ideas. Stage 2 will be weathering/dents and carving out behind the glyphs and installing EL Wire to make the symbols really glow! Will post an update when finished.

You should have made a ring of salt around everything... Maybe you can make some sort of fake salt that you could glue to the boards.

Oh now I like that idea of the sale! It could 'frame' the edges of the display nicely. Will look into that, thanks!

I will be working on it tomorrow, trimming and weathering so will test out some replacement for salt

nice idea with the old wood. have a look around for old pallets around business parks or industrial estates. you never know what you may find.

In several crafting communities that use exotic wood it's the dirty little secret that pallets are made from local wood. So large items from places like Malaysia, Thailand or China can arrive on pallets made of materials common over there but rare here. Pallets also make use of sizable unbroken pieces of scrap wood so finding pieces of furniture grade quarter sawn oak or cherry aren't uncommon.
