Superman Returns suit which options are out there!

agreed. the boot is great for reference, and would make a production run that much easier. interesting.

Hello all,

and special Mr. MattMunson ty very much for all these infos oh and I understand not everything exactly but most of it what you try to inform me.

I still have to read all these infos here some more times to undetstand everything but once again ty very much you all for helping me.

Hey again,

so after some time of thinking I would try first to go the BA route for the millskin undersuit and trunks because as everyone said these products are looking very well and I realy like the look of them.

To the belt anyone would be know which private person Mr. Munson is talking about that made that very accurate looking Superman Returns belt? Any info on that would be very helpfull please.

@ Joe if you realy try to get that boot and try to replicate them than I absolutly would be interrested in a pair of course.

So the hunt for accurate pieces would be still on.

Greetings Oliver

Great Info!!! I

I'm also looking for a SR costume.

Sorry for joining this party so late, but I'm thinking of doing a SR costume for Halloween this year.

I think I'm good for the suit, emblem, belt, and trunks (leaning towards Bronze Armory), but I'm struggling with the cape and boots.

Any recommendations other than Ricky?

Sean

I'm getting all the cotume parts from Bronze Armory and the boots from Keith www.superheroboots.com the boots are not perfect but are the most accurate on the market.

Hey Matt, just out of curiosity:
Are you using the spidey suit pattern as your final suit pattern? Or are you in turn using it as a base pattern (for an established bodysuit) to further modify.

When I made my Returns suit the pattern was quite tricky, especially with the lines that went around the arms, waist, and legs exterior. I had determined those to be the seams, just sealed like modern wetsuits...
If this is poppycock, I apologize. I've only had the motivation to read bits and pieces of your buildup blog :p

*edit* But for the record, your detailed descriptions and dedication to sharing is applaud-able.

Based on the research I have done, and even some VERY recent photos that have come to light for me, I will tell you where I think the seams go.

Each leg is a separate part. There is one seem on the inner thigh. I am confident of this. I BELIEVE the legs sew together at the crotch, so there's a seam running down the butt crack and up the front. There's a panel on the front for "access". The upper body is a separate piece. There's a seam around the waist. this I am certain of. The torso is ONE piece, with a single seam at the back for the zipper. This I am certain of. The sleeves are raglan style, with the seams running roughly 45 degrees from the armpit, and meeting at the collar. There is also a seam on the shoulder, that brings the sleeves together.

The briefs are similarly complex. One primary seam that runs down the butt crack, and an inch or two up the front. And a horizontal seam right at the bottom of the crotch. No side seams. Of this I am certain.

Here's a post that shows a bunch of eye opening pics I acquired recently:

I should probably put together an illustration for my blog that maps out what I have discovered so far, if only so I can remember it myself.

As for the NEW pattern I am developing, there's actually a couple things going on there. One of the things i am considering is offering diamond pattern printing for fellow costumers. So lets say you are making a Deadpool costume, but you don't want to go with boring old flat lycra. I could offer fabric with the diamonds printed on it, just to add some variety. I'm not sure how much interest there would be in it, but it could be cool.

In order to make this happen, I need to figure out how big I need my screen to be. That's really why I'm looking at the spidey pattern. Because it has a widest point that I will need to account for. Still not sure if I"m going to pursue this, but it would be interesting.

I have already finished my pattern for the SR body suit, though even now it needs some tweaking. it is NOT the Spider-Man style pattern. I only messed around with that one for the legs.

Damn dude!
I knew this was gonna be good, but with all of the reference/research and new pics...

I can't wait to see your suit finished!

i found some website from a guy who did visual effects on superman returns and he had these great photos, of brandon routh in the suit but without the cape and they were taking 360 degree scan of him for the cgi double, i cant find the link but i saved them on my computer and dont know if im allowed to post them since im not the owner but if you pm me your email address i would happily pass them on.
@matt they give great reference to the racing stripes on the back of the suit

thanks buddy!

Yeah the body and emblem and belt and briefs are all BA. I got them before they even released them way back when! I have actually held a chest emblem from the movie. I was in the DC offices and there is was. They were looking at it for product stuff!. I agree...not completely accurate but to the casual viewer this total suit (sans boots and cape) is the best. It looks amazing and people stop to look and more!

The cape was done as Matt said by Ricky's. I hate it! It is heavy, pains my neck and really isn't anything like the movie. I am not judging his work by the way, but its just not right and waaaaay too heavy! But again, the overall effect is very good.

The boots were made by a board member form a super hero board and they are actually pretty cool. They are not 100% but the effect overall is damn good!

It's a tough suit to do. The cape and boots especially. Even coming cose is tough.

Thx for the kind words Matt! See u on Halloween I hope!

How were you able to attach the BA Returns Emblem? I have one and it seems to stiff and would pull on the spandex too much. Any insight would be great!

MAtt, amazing stuff huh! I live in NYC, didnt know Tussades had a suite. Been meaning to go there. Let me know if u want any pics...

Just wanna say great job guys!

And Matt, I was reading your blog...I know how crazy complicated screening can be when it comes to costuming. I completed my Star Trek 09 Uhura last year and the screening process was one of the hardest things I've ever done. I know tha pain. lol.

I used 3M mounting tape, it's gray with a red peel off film, don't use the cheap white mounting tape
I tried it and in time it comes off, I have it mounted on my mannequin it's now a few months and never came off, apply strips on the red edge only not yellow, you need to mount in place the Emblem while your wearing it or displayed on mannequin so the bodysuit is prestretched.

u attach the emblem using Zap-A-Gap glue. It is a flexible superglue u can use on fabric. U have to be very careful, but wow it works amazingly!

I would like to use this fabric but I cannot find "Bronze Armory" online. I must be doing something wrong. There's no bronze armory.com or the like. Any help appreciated.
