Hello Everyone,

I hope your holidays are going well so far. I have a few slow weeks and I thought it might be a good time to practice my modelling. A while ago I purchased a model of these binoculars and I was going to print the files when I noticed a few details that seemed incorrect. As I looked into it more, I realized the model I had wasn't as accurate as I had first thought and so I started creating my version in Fusion.

I've been scouring these forums and the internet for reference and I've made a pretty good start in Fusion 360, but I'm realizing there are some details that may require some actual measuring to get right. I also have a genuine Revell V8 model kit and I'm going to model the parts from that as well.

I'm wondering if anyone has access to a genuine Simrad and a pair of callipers that would be willing to help me out with some details? Or, if you have a kit you've built that you know was cast from an original, that would be cool as well.

Also, any reference photos would be greatly appreciated. There are a few details that I'm unsure of such as how the lens cover attaches at the bottom. There seems to be a dome like shape with a through hole, but I'm confused how to model this.

Thanks!

Hello!
Great job!
I'm waiting to see this! I'm also very interested in a very accurate model of the binoculars :) (But I don't have any to help...)

Thanks!

I've been working a bit on this as I'm able to find references, but unfortunately nobody has come forward offering to help with a genuine pair. I would be willing to rent a pair from someone for a week to really nail this, but I suspect no one is that trusting. :D

I'll keep working on it as I get more details.

Sure! I searched for an actual pair to modelize, but it was arround $2000... And I'm not sure to be able to sell it afterwards!
I planned to modelize from photographs and video references, but it won't be accurate as I would.
If I could have been of any help, I would have done so wholeheartedly.

(On my side, I'm modeling a camtono from Galaxy's Edge as I can't find any 3D model accurante enough :p )

Good luck! I'm following your work!
Paul
