Hello all,

I realy would like to get a nice accurate Superman Returns suit together so which options do I have and what´s out there to built up that suit?
For any help or information I would be more than thankfull.

Greetings Oliver

A few of the urethane pieces (shield, belt) can be found, but not the boot soles. Accurate material, though, is basically impossible to find. The diamond-textured milliskin for the bodysuit and extra-wide milled wool for the cape were custom-made for the production.

Actually, each one of those suits was roughly $100k, and with about 100 of them made, Superman Returns basically spent $10 million dollars just on the Man of Steel's wardrobe.

Wow, that's interesting news, thanks for sharing.

Ty very much Neon Sentry for this realy interresting infos and wow I deventely would not have so much money to spent on that suit lol. So maybe I have to look for good fanmade stuff than as I saw a good looking milskin blue suit on ebay and that seller also hase the red trunks and the shiled and belt. Do you know the Bronce Armory and there quality??? Or are there any other places to find good fanmade Superman Returns stuff?

Greetings Oliver

there are some good suits out there in millskin. Bronze armory did mine and also the shield. The biggest thin gis the boots and cape. But i think overall a good representation if not an actual repo!

Hello Aquaman wow that is realy a fantastic looking suit you have there. Did the blue millskinsuit come with the darker blue lines already added on the suit or did you have done that by yourself?

Greetings Oliver

I've been working on a suit for over a year now. I molded a production made chest emblem, belt, and cape :) Getting boots made in Argentina, though they are dragging their feet. I have meticulously blogged the entire thing. You can read all about it and see tons of pictures here;

http://mattmunson1.blogspot.com/

Before you ask, I don't have any plans to sell parts at this time. I've been robbed too many times by recasters and scammers. That makes the hobby less fun for me, so my current policy is just to keep it among friends :)

I realize my last post didnt' really answer your question, since my blog doesn't really show "options" :)

Here is what I have learned in my quest for the ultimate Superman Returns costume:

first, NOBODY has put the correct chest emblem or belt on the market. There may be castings circulating among private collectors, but they are keeping it VERY quiet. Of ALL the pieces Iv'e seen out there, none are correct, though some come pretty close.

Bronze armory makes a really good body suit. It's not perfect, but it's very VERY close, and I am using one of theirs for my costume. They also make the best briefs, though they are not quite right in cut or diamond pattern. But they are the best out there.

Ricky's Custom Costumes makes a nice cape, though it is really heavy, and not constructed the same way as the screen used capes. He got the colors VERY close, though he does not have the micro-diamond pattern on it. He uses what looks like an industrial pleather. Still, I believe it's the nicest one out there. It does't flow quite right, but it looks good.

I think the best belt out there is a fan made piece, though I forget the name of the guy who made it. It's off in a number of ways, but for the casual fan, it looks dead on. Compared to a screen used, it's not quite there, but the guy did a great job building it off screen caps and stills.

Chest emblem is a real mixed bag. There is one that you can find online that is too small, but is VERY beautiful. It's an injection molded, professional piece that looks like it came off some other product. Maybe like a backpack, or something like that. I don't know the source of it, but it's a BEAUTIFUL piece, and actually has cleaner lines than the production made pieces. But it is a lot smaller. There are ones on ebay that are supposed to be copied off screen used ones, but they are not. Size is wrong, micro-s pattern is wrong, and it looks a little too "organic". Doesn't have the machined perfection that the smaller one has. So until a casting of a real one hits the market, you'll need to chose between one of those two. They show up on ebay all the time.

Boots! That's the hardest part. Rickys Custom Costumes makes them, but they are not quite right. he is the only guy I know of that produces them to order. Dont' get me wrong, I appreciate that there is a seller filling a need, but they miss the mark in a number of ways. But they are passable. I think your best bet would be to buy a pair of CA Boots and customize them. heck, even if you just painted them a darker burgandy and chopped the top at an angle, you'd be half way there. I spent a lot of time and money trying to develop a pair of boots, but it has been an uphilll battle. I'm considering doing an overseas effort, but not sure if I could justify the expense. My advice would be to go with CA boots. Oh, motorcowboy offers an SR boot, but it is just a Batman Begins boot that is red. Not even close to accurate, but they do make a very high quality boot.

hope that helps answer your question. Post more if you want more details or further assistance.

Wow...thats some amazing work!

Can I be your "friend"? ;)

Lol! yeah, totally :) The bummer with things like the cape is that it takes SOOO much time and effort to make just one. For me, it's just not worth it to spend a few weeks slaving over something that is just going to be recast :) And the sad part about the state of the hobby right now, which may also be a reflection on the state of the economy, is that no matter WHAT I DO, someone always finds a way to rip me off. Sometimes unintentionally. For example, I sell something to someone who is a friend, whom I trust, and they do not knock it off. But then hard times hit, and they sell it to someone they know. They then proceed to dump it in rubber. It's not something I can control, and I personally get deeply effected by it when my work is recast. Especially when I pour so much attention and love into my projects :)

Forgot to mention, if you go to my blog, I have tagged all of my SR articles, so you can find them quickly on the menu on the right hand side.

Oh cool..I was going one page at a time. I'll leaf through a bit at a time.

You have invested a LOT of time!

My 3 year old son has had a Superman shirt and or cape on every day for the last 3 months or so...not quite screen accurate tho. ;)

By the way, this is the best R costume I've seen that was built using the pieces I discuss in my original post. To the casual observer, it's pretty much dead on. It's only us complete fanatics that would notice the little things.

I would say if you can get a costume as good/awesome as this one, you'll be head and shoulders above what most people are wearing.

Looks like a BA body suit, chest emblem, and belt to me. Not sure where the cape came from. But yeah, great looking suit.

thanks buddy!

Yeah the body and emblem and belt and briefs are all BA. I got them before they even released them way back when! I have actually held a chest emblem from the movie. I was in the DC offices and there is was. They were looking at it for product stuff!. I agree...not completely accurate but to the casual viewer this total suit (sans boots and cape) is the best. It looks amazing and people stop to look and more!

The cape was done as Matt said by Ricky's. I hate it! It is heavy, pains my neck and really isn't anything like the movie. I am not judging his work by the way, but its just not right and waaaaay too heavy! But again, the overall effect is very good.

The boots were made by a board member form a super hero board and they are actually pretty cool. They are not 100% but the effect overall is damn good!

It's a tough suit to do. The cape and boots especially. Even coming cose is tough.

Thx for the kind words Matt! See u on Halloween I hope!

Aquaman, that costume is wonderful! You look great! I noticed that when other people do theirs, the colors are off. Yours are dead on! Great work! Wow, I really am impressed!

For the body suit, I own a BA suit, and a Ricky's suit. I also own a swatch of a screen used suit. Neither are dead on, but the BA is really darn close. The ricky's is a deeper blue that is actually a lot richer looking, and might actually be preferred by some costumers because it looks so nice. But my feeling is that the BA one is closer to the originals.

I don't think ricky includes the "racing stripes" on his suit, which are built into the BA suit.

Also, the craftsmanship on the BA suit is just top notch. Just stunning. Ricky's is nice, but sort of has a 'home made' feel to it. The stitching isn't as tight or straight as the BA.

Just sayin! Don't get me wrong, Ricky makes a good costume at a good price, and it looks good. It has advantages and disadvantages. For my money, it's BA :)

Actually, the boots for the underwater scenes (like the one in your link) were made from pleather instead of leather in order to retain it's coloring, which is why the pattern on it appears to be printed instead of imbossed. Even nabbing that wouldn't get you Hero detail for making repros.

The cape for those scenes was also different, using latex-covered silk instead of the urethane-covered wool the Hero capes were made with... IIRC.

i think the boot although not what was totally used is still awesome and would make a great boot for costumers looking for almost real. I woul ddef be interested!
