Does anyone have any information on the comic book used in the opening title sequence from Superman The Movie? Was it made for the production? Did they modify an existing comic? Is it assembled from a couple of different comics?

I have no idea but I always wanted one. I'm pretty sure it's a custom book for the movie - if I remember right the cover has a few rockets escaping from Krypton and the daily planet shot was matched perfectly to the push in shot where we break through and enter the comic.

The comic at the beginning of the film was a custom made piece for the film. The actual Action Comics #1 looks nothing like that comic.
I would love to see this piece replicated.

I'm with ya. I can barely draw stick figures. Doesn't surprise me that this piece was made for the movie. Was just kinda hoping that maybe the cover was an existing comic. Perhaps a different issue of Action Comics that they inserted pages into.

Oh, well... If anyone decides to tackle this I'd be sure be interested.

Is any one still working on this?
It would be a great prop for all of our Superman collections.
To help make this happen I just e-mailed the Johnson-Smith company to see if they archive the ad's they placed and if it would be possible to get a copy of it for the prop...any one interested in it if I get it?

Google action comics and they are all over the net. I'm sure that was a custom comic. If you search more comic forums I bet you'll find tons of references for it.

Sure take the easy way...lol
I just it would be cool to use the same one used in the comic directly from the company :lol

Definitely made for the movie.

The original comic had the paper named the Daily Star (as the creators based it on the Toronto Star, while they were working in Toronto)

It would be fun to see someone's take on it (I could give it a go, but my drawing style is a little too cartoony)

Now I cant draw worth a darn :angry

I just received an e-mail from the Johnson-Smith Company!
They said that one of their old catalogs from that era is in the mail! It might not be an exact copy but I think that the talented people here on the RPF can work with it!
I'll post scans when I get it!

Sounds great, but will it have images of the comic? I dont recall seeing ads in it?

Ah...got it.

I do happen to have scans of all action comics from the beginning 91937 I think) through the 90's. I wonder if that ad is in one of them.

I loved finding the ad for winning a small role in Superman the Movie. I then read about the kids who won and got to be in the high school scene filmed near here. :)
