Sucker Punch SPOILERS!

Re: Sucker Punch

There's maybe about ten minutes of "real world" in the whole movie. Both the dancing bordello stuff and all the action were "fantasy."

I know....but "fantasy world" and "Fantasy world within a fantasy world" sounded a little spoiler-ish.

The reveal at the end was interesting.

Re: Sucker Punch

Indeed, people often complain about sequels and remakes, but when a original movie comes along they won't even give it a chance.

The director's cut is supposed to be 18 minutes longer.

People tend to be harsh on remakes or reboots because they tend to be watered down versions of the original material. I would hope the original movies we get to be something more than a video game that runs the length of a feature film. To tell you the truth - i wish Inception and Sucker Punch had a drunken night of passion between the sheets that produced a child. A cross between those two films - inception losing a lot of it's self importance and ridiculous set up and Sucker Punch subtracting it's penciled dialogue and paper thin characters - now you're talking.

Watch out Superman -- Doomsday is coming.

Re: Sucker Punch

yup, its Inception meets Kill Bill in a psych ward. I have to admit I wasn't into it the first 45 minutes or so thinking this would have been cool ten years ago but when that first little "event discovery" happens that changes the direction and makes you go "oh hell!" then it becomes more interesting... BUT being confused is the whole point... its the last 15 minute revelations that make it all worth while and make you understand why its called Sucker Punch.. you don't see it comin! :lol I hated it, then at the end I realized I LOVED it!!!

Re: Sucker Punch

I haven't seen it, and want to, but I'm put off a little by the fantasy world thing. Mind you, I still want all the crazy stuff to happen, but I want the context to be "real", not in someone's mind. When everything in a movie is happening in a dream, then (for me) the drama is removed. "It's just a dream, so who cares?" That's one of the (many) problems I have with The Matrix.

I totally agree with you. The only movie that ever solved the dream stakes problem was Nightmare on Elm Street.

Re: Sucker Punch

Where are the Spoilers ? My daughter wants to see it and I gotta know all the spoilers before we go to the theater, just in case.

Re: Sucker Punch

How old is your daughter? the film is PG-13 and while only alludes to certain abuses it could be a bit much for your young kid.

the film is trippy and very crazy but that is the point. the whole concept of it being a fantasy has a reason... its about coping with her situation.. its what people do when bad things are happening to them.. they go inside themselves to escape what is happening. believe me, the last 20 minutes of the film is the kicker... you then see who the players are, why they are the characters they are in her head and what it is they are doing in the "real world" that makes her go all ape on them in the fantasy dilusion. and its also a suckerpunch in that you won't see it coming when the film comes to its ultimate conclusion. I think they could have went further and just went with an "R" rating and not wimped out on some of the main points of the film. it could have been much better really but lets just say there won't be a sequel! :confused

Re: Sucker Punch

I don't think it's a love or hate it film as I think it would be really difficult for anyone above 17 to love this film and entirely possible for most to hate it. I think it has one of the most annoying soundtracks I've ever heard in a movie. That being said, I was willing to accept the music video style seizure full of video game sensibilities overload for the most part. It's like a hyper-realized Pink Floyd The Wall. I'm not sure how much I'd ever want to see it again, despite all the eye candy on display. It's definitely a Zack Snyder vanity project. I thought 300 was highly overrated. It basically comes down to, you're either willing to go along for the ride or not.

Re: Sucker Punch

i absolutely loved 300, I absolutely hated this.....pure crap

definitely eye candy.....amber was the hottest one of the bunch....always like hudgens, but amber is my woman now.....i will definitely never see this film again

Re: Sucker Punch

I came home and listened to four of the original versions of the songs on the soundtrack just to get the horrible cover versions (crap remakes) out of my head. As a guy who can often appreciate the need to remake movies if not always the results, I can certainly sympathize right now with all of you who hate remakes.

Re: Sucker Punch

I would have enjoyed it a lot more if it weren't for all the bullet time. I felt like it was just stalling for the poor fight choreography. Other than that, I loved the fantasy sequences for the most part. I didn't really care for the reality, and I don't see why people were so surprised by the "sucker punch" ending. I won't say anything to ruin it, but we were introduced to who the characters really were in the beginning of the movie, no surprises there. I'm completely fed up with depressing endings in movies, too. We get it, it's artistic to be emo, now cut it out.

I thought the soundtrack was the best part of the movie. But I like song covers most of the time. Makes an old song new again.

Re: Sucker Punch

I thought the Sweet Dreams cover (and that whole sequence) was very good. Some of the others I didn't really like, though. The soundtrack made me think of Watchmen, sometimes it just didn't fit.

Re: Sucker Punch

I was looking on IMDB...The gal that played Baby Doll sang a few of the songs. My question is where was the Zepplin song? That worked really well in the trailer.

Re: Sucker Punch

"Army of Me"(the song they play the first time Baby Doll dances) wasn't a cover, was it? It sounded like the original.

I liked it more than I thought I would. I can't really imagine the movie going on longer. I can see what they mean about cutting back on some character development, but by the time we got to the futuristic train sequence, I'd had enough. I think they should have cut out one of the sequences or had fewer "quest items." I can't explain more thoroughly than that without spoilers.

Re: Sucker Punch

If they added a smidge more plot, backed the camera up 3 feet and held it steady I'd have liked this movie more. As is it wasn't bad but I doubt I'll ever watch it again. May need to track down the soundtrack though.
