Stupid DST Geological Tricorder ( Star Trek )

I just got the new EE catalog and it has the Geo Tricorder in there. The pic is of the HMS prototype of course, but what is killing me is the scanner. The picture just shows the TOS med scanner. Was really hoping for more... I know DST loves to pump out variants when they can reuse the molds (and I love it), but I expected more. Hell, even some TOS data cards that fit in the bottom compartment would be more fun than a scanner redo.

Here is how the description reads:

Based on the design seen in the original Star Trek television series, the remarkably detailed electronic instrument features silver highlights over a black finish, plus light and sound effects taken from the watershed TV show. Its the ultimate replica for any fan, collector, or 23rd-century geologist. Not only dos the case open to reveal the detailed interior, but it also includes a compartment with a removable scanner accessory! The Tricorder features blinking light, a spinning scanner, light-up elements, and an adjustable shoulder strap. It recites 6 electronic phrases from the Enterprises computer systems, like "Working" and "Standing by."

I saw that... it wasn't all that original. Perhaps they'll fix their complete screw up with the medical one though and make this scanner spin rather than having a faint warble sound that can only be heard by bats.

Even if they beef up the scanner, it doesnt fit with this Tricorder. That and DST already said it was too expensive to do the motorized spinning scanner.

I thought they said it was too expensive to do both... so in the end they chose the noise... which ended up terrible. Either way, I'm looking for the silver lining.

Sheesh!

Personally, I think if they had to make these things talk they should have just put the Majel Barrett computer voice in all of them. It makes more sense than McCoy and Spock.

Actually a Geological tricorder with Medical scanner would be great for me, since I only bothered to get the standard Science tricorder initially. :love

You have a point there...
Since this one doesnt have a spinning Moire perhaps they put the motor in the scanner...now THAT would be neat.
The discription does say spinning scanner.

Did the others have an adjustable strap?

And I totally agree with you on the voices...

Has anyone looked at it recently. Now it seems to be coming with test tubes of ore samples......interesting choice.....

I just pre-ordered the DST Geo tricorder.
I can see these becoming quite expensive.
And they say July, but it'll be more like August. At least.

I pre-ordered one myself. DST does not make clear if the GEO tricorder will come with a scanner, but it is still advertised as such. I actually have two medical tricorders, so two scanners. I modified both with motors and sound so they work as they are supposed to. I am working on getting a completed medical pouch (just need the hypo), and I will have a complete set of Dr. McCoy's landing party equipment.

DST posted a Q&A on their site. They confirmed, no scanner will come with the unit. Only the specimen vials will come with it.

Well, I am sitting on the fence here as these TOS Tricorders are really not my cup of tea. However, the urge to break open one of them for modification is overpowering......

So, what happens when you take the blue vial instad of the red.....? [Matrix]:lol
