Studio Scale TIE Fighter

Re: STUDIO SCALE TIE FIGHTER **UPDATED PICS**

good to know there´s still time until the Y is ready,

Yeah, I'm gonna have to save for the Y too, a wait is kinda handy!

Jamie, I can't have been feeling very purist when signing up for a 1/18 version! The size tickled me fancy, and if it's not SS then there's latitude on widgeting as far as I'm concerned. It's all good, despite my comment it leaves plenty of room for your project. Hell even I'll probably end up getting both eventually. I'm a ho for these things.

Hey, wasn't there already an SS kit? What happened to that? A friend in London says he had one but that's all I know.

There has never been a true SS kit of the ANH X-1 that I know of. It took the best donor part finders we know a long time to figure out what was used on it. Some fun finds on that one! :angel
The way this is working is once a kit it released it is soon retired to make way for new projects. No over-lapse, no waiting periods, and no getting behind. So every model will be a relatively small run. Retired for good? That remains to be seen.

As far as the Red Y Martin, even though it wasn't ever seen on screen it does have a unique pedigree. So it's about a choice for the builder.

Re: STUDIO SCALE TIE FIGHTER **UPDATED PICS**

Well there is another model in front of the Y so it's going to be several months away. The Y will be offered in the Red or Gold configuration.
I'm building a cockpit interior. The cockpit is hollow (two piece). The engines are done. John C is busy with the body. We're also still actively looking for a couple of parts.

What is the model in front of the Y?

The X1... :)

By the end of the year, but more than likely into early next year (we hope)...a VERY limited ANH ISD.The original parts are found and mapped. We're just hashing out the master build details in order to make it happen.
Now I've gone and said too much already...:angel

Glad you guys like the new Tie!

Took long enough... put me on the X1 list NOW!

Please...

Man that is sweet. I've been wanting to do a Studio Scale model for ages and, until you mentioned the X-1, thought the Hero TIE might be the one!

Let's see...TIE or X-1, TIE or X-1, TIE or X-1...?

Both you need...:lol

Re: STUDIO SCALE TIE FIGHTER **UPDATED PICS**

The wings have been remastered. I personally own a set of the hero stars and they are perfection.

There is no need to do any further work on them.

when the new tie fighter kit will be ready for sending ?
and i'm interested for an X-1 kit too

Don't make me do it--I'm warning you!!!

not just both - now you need two hero ties and the x-1 so you can simulate the trench run.

but continue to blame darkside72 for the suggestion.. hee hee

Oooohhh, that very very expensive idea occurred to me long before darkside72 replied :lol

That would be an awesome display though wouldn't it?

I do recall something else my friend said. He wasn't terribly impressed with it. Doubtless that's why.

That's the second time in a week I've seen that claim made. But in fact it IS on screen - during one of the trench runs - isn't it? At any rate I thought it was the ship missing an R2 in that scene. I don't have the dvd and only have one low-res screen cap showing it. Colour is near mono, but the stripes don't look yellow.

Cheers,
Martyn

Many people have said that so far, and noone could provide a pic to prove it. I don´t think it is in there. And in some shots, none of the Ys has a droid:

The Jammer wasnt used on screen, for a start i dont even think it was with ILM when shooting for the mini's was underway, it was sent, AFAIK to Elstree for the full size set mock ups...thats what ive heard anyhoo!

Ah, quite right, the things you forget when you're old. :)

To be honest, that's the shot I'm thinking of. Nose markings on the rear ship look red to me, and it seems to have the matching grey front port quarter panel and streak behind it. However I'd have to admit the engines don't seem to match. My eyesight's not good enough to pick out other identifying details. Bring on the blu-ray! :D

Oh well - she's still there in the hangar shots, if you count the mockup, LOL!!!

Lee, the Red Squadron Y-wing was built for Elstree reference and there are pics showing it there in company with Blue 1. It was incomplete - partial starboard engine only, no piping, etc. (The set mockup has the Red Squadron Y's paint scheme, easily picked by the grey nose panel on the port upper forwards surface.)

Both models were sent back to ILM; Blue Leader became Red 2 as is now well known and the Red Y was given a complete starboard engine and piping. We know this was done before the publicity shots in Famous Spaceships were taken, and there seems no reason to suppose the work wasn't done at the same time as the repaint of Red 2. I can't see why it wouldn't have been shot. But it's like finding Red 4 and Red 6 on screen...hard!

Still wondering what "Jammer" means BTW, there's no sign of EW gear on this ship, LOL!

Cheers,
Martyn
