Studio Scale TIE Fighter

Re: STUDIO SCALE TIE FIGHTER **UPDATED PICS**

If the rest of the new multi-part TIE Hero looks that good, I will be the first to say with complete honesty that Steve and his pattern maker did a tremendous job. I planned to tackle something similar when I finished up my other stuff, but if I don't have to "reinvent the wheel", I won't!

When will the multi-part hull/Hero TIE kits be available for order?

I'd love to buy a kit, since the quality and approach to parts are so nice.

Re: STUDIO SCALE TIE FIGHTER **UPDATED PICS**

Great job, I'm glad to finally see a canopy with curved frames !

Close to perfection, kudos !

Re: STUDIO SCALE TIE FIGHTER **UPDATED PICS**

How did you get the new bottom hatch on. Mine looks like the bottom is molded into the hull. I am a moron at this stuff, so sorry if my question is dumb.

Re: STUDIO SCALE TIE FIGHTER **UPDATED PICS**

Those are some super crisp castings. To echo the other sentiments, awesome job Steve. :thumbsup

I started out grinding it down using a 1 1/4" dia. drum sander in a hand drill to flatten it out untill there was just a little bit of the lip of the original cover left . Then i used a small drum sander on the dremel to eat some more untill it was super close, then used the same tool to eat a perimiter around the bottom about 1/8" in from the edge. Then a mini end mill on the dremel to clean it up and make a trench for the cover to go into.(see pic) Once i got it to fit i noticed the original top and bottom hatch was a little crooked so the new covers details didn't line up quite right with the hulls details. So i took a big file and squared up the top and bottom holes. The front and back were fine. Once i did this and recleaned out the bottom trench everything is pretty straight now. I can't wait to keep going on it but i'm close to having all my Hasbro Greivous ship mods done so i need to finish it first.

Re: STUDIO SCALE TIE FIGHTER **UPDATED PICS**

But what about the version he's making with the multi-part ball itself, like the original props? You know, with the metal wing spar. Anyone have pics of that version?

Re: STUDIO SCALE TIE FIGHTER **UPDATED PICS**

Does anyone have any Tamiya 1:12 Matra MS11 wheels they'd like to sell me - castings or original?

Re: STUDIO SCALE TIE FIGHTER **UPDATED PICS**

Does anyone have a source for the LED holders that are used for the canons?

I get most of my stuff from Digikey or Newark ,but their shipping prices on small stuff is high. I order through work with other stuff.

Here is Digikeys link

Newark has a pdf for them, the CLP125's are what you want

Is Steve working on a new hero TIE with these features? If he is, I will hold off building the one I already have.

Re: STUDIO SCALE TIE FIGHTER **UPDATED PICS**

Yes, supposedly this one is made just like the originals were complete with metal tubing and mounting ports.
