Wonderful work as always REL, you never cease to amaze with your detail (and speed)!
I know this is SS, but what approximate scale would you say it is if you had to? 1:48?

This was a topic of conversation among the builder group. Based on the stated "real world" dims of the vessel on sw.com, the scale is close to 1/33. Incidentally, that's essentially the same as the MR Falcon. However...using a donor kit part that appears in the Slave filming model cockpit for reference, it's clear that the pilot figure does not match the calculated scale based on the canon "real world" dimensions. The pilot figure seems to be the iconic Harrier pilot in 1/24, Boba'd up with apoxie sculpt.

Fantastic work Richard!

I know that there are folks out there that are coming out of the woodwork now that claim to know more of this beastie than the group who actually put in extreme man hours and money into investigating it's exactness. That said, I know that it IS as exact as it possibly can be! It IS BETTER than the original in shape (not wonky in places) and has the correct kit bashed pieces placed in the correct areas. The scribing is exact and second to none. The fact that Richard will be the first to offer this publicly is why the extra comment from others is being made now. I am not saying that those others are wrong. I AM saying that investigations were done with extreme prejudice toward getting this beastie correct by those whom I consider to be PROS in this Hobby.... and RESULTS are going to be offerred to the public soon enough. If others can do better, then they are free to do so.

This has been a FANTASTIC collaboration of great modelers and Richard is the artist bringing those collaborations to life with most excellence!

CONGRATULATIONS to "The Group" who made this possible!

I will be the first of many collectors to thank for your efforts!

I think they were just trying to be helpful guys, I don't think there's a reason to get upset, and I do appreciate people pointing problems out, as it helps me do a better job.

As the guys pointed out, the studio model was hand sculpted and has some symmetry issues because of that, in our case those problems were corrected in the computer before it was printed out , so our body is perfectly symmetrical as a result. So in that regard, it won't be exact to the ILM version, not saying anything negative about the filming model as I consider it a masterpiece with it's own character.

These things were all discussed at length among the members of the group, and we decided to produce an idealized version using the technology we have available to us now.

Re: Studio Scale Slave I (new pics page 18)

I laid down an extremely fine coat of Dupont 131s to look for any last minute flaws before it goes into rubber next week. I mixed it like 90-10 reducer.

Has there actually been people who has questioned the accuarcy of REL's work? Hard to believe. I have compared his build up to every pics of the studiomodel I have. Alle have found was few armor plates that I thought looked like the where of a sligtly different sape. This may be due my material. tha ngle it was photographed. Or simply becuase the body was traightend to be symetrical. The differeneces I saw was tenths of millimeters. So nothing I would judge as a actual flaw.
I have said it before, it is one amazing build. And I'm really hoping this will be made into a kit.
Keep up the good work REL. At this build speed, I doubt that you actually are a human being ;)

Maybe it's too early to congratulate, but it must be a masterpiece of yours. Keep it on Rich. I expect to see its final pics soon.

I appreciate your feedback, and no apology is necessary.

Re: Studio Scale Slave I (new pics page 18)

If only I wasnt between houses Id be all over this, its giving me goosebumps just looking at it, just out of curiosity how many hours a day on average do you spend on a project like this Rich?

I must admit that it is most difficult these days to determine who is truly trying to help in these pieces creation. There is so much malicious behavior toward each other in this hobby that I am surprised that anything gets created at all.

That said, Moe, I now understand that you were only trying to help. You are a GREAT artist of whom we all well respect. As Richard stated, your input is always welcome. :)

The Group behind this Slave came together to make things happen, more efficiently and with slightly faster result to final release,... and that they are. Most of us in this hobby are 40 plus now and would like to enjoy that which we dreamed of with these fantastic stories shown to us in the 60's and 70's. Many GKers don't have the time or resources to create this stuff in a timely manner, but lay claim to a project which may never see the light of day in their care. It is the malice of those who would claim a project to be THEIRS that often try to 'torpedo' the efforts of those who actually "DO" get that project out. With all the secrets and backstabbing that is within this hobby, it is difficult to see when 'authentic' assistance is offered.

Imagine a hobby where we ALL worked together toward the same goals of having this stuff created?!!! One without greed of who was to be "THE MAN" of the hobby, or the one to make the most money in doing so. This hobby is overwhelmed with individuals (like myself) that are always seeking attention, no matter how harmful it may be to the people or hobby.

I know there are many collaborations of artists out there that get things produced. I also know there is animosity between most of them in some way or another due to their past dealings with each other. It would seem that everyone else is always to blame for the actions of all hobbyists, with their unkept secrets (usually told be the one who wanted that secret kept in the first place), or divulged "super secret" reference materials. Or,.. the grand daddy of the all... NOT coming through with what deal that was made.

This Group of artists responsible for this SS Slave's existence, along with Richard, actually think the same way. That working together often has better benefits than working alone. Each has their own expertise that they lend to the project at hand. The Slave may be the first for this Group, but not the last. There will be more.

So... just imagine what we could ALL do together?!!! Is it possible to do this with the bad blood floating around? It certainly is! It just takes someone to decide to make it happen. ;)

Re: Studio Scale Slave I (new pics page 18)

This project certainly is no small wonder of collaboration. With any project that involves more then one person interpersonal issues are always present. Sometimes this can be a good thing where it leads to a spirit of friendly competition - but more often then not it can turn ugly.

I understand and support the decisions of people who pour tons of research into projects, and want to keep the "secrets". Its their work and they are entitled... some of these kits are expesive and hard to find enough without "dabblers" driving the price up on a project they may never finish (I include myself in this category). But I also understand the flip side where free distribution of info can benefit a wide audience... and in this case I beleive it has. Mostly independent research, coupled with a strong desire to collaborate and share has created a project that has come together realtively quickly and with remarkable good results.

In general in this hobby I have found its participants to be Extremely willing to lend a hand identifying this part or that - or to suggest a better way to build XYZ, or even divulge the much guarded secret reference and/or secret... as long as the favor is returned and the information is used in good faith. That is a CREDIT to THIS COMMUNITY. More then any other Online or real life group that I have been associated with THIS group of people are (for the most part) honorable and repectful people who incidentally have some MAD modeling skills (Ok mine aren't mad skills but they are getting better daily).

I apologize for diverting this thread a bit but I felt I should chime in with this...

Back on topic - WOW that HULL looks awesome!

I am so in line for this one. Save for the Falcon, Slave One is to me the Star Wars ship with the most character.

A real labor of love, and you guys are doing great! Thanks so much for doing an open run.
