cheers pal.."planning on making the vocoder from plywood, but that may change depending on how it turns out!!!
a bit more tweaking done today. Cheeks shaped a little more. More work done on the ears. More definition added to the chin/vocoder area bt means of milliput. Front indents filled in as they where a right mess so back to square 1 with them....
I promise i'm not posting the same pics up
i'm also going for the angriest looking stormtrooper ever
its never nice having to re-do something, but through mistakes comes experience so you can do it better and quicker next time. i've already had a couple of those moments already.
hows it coming along mate? any progress with your vocoder?
just as a side note, once finished if you plan on molding it in silicone i would avoid rustoleum primer/paints as some contain fish oils that screw the curing of the silicone.
i picked up a can of grey rustoleum primer that looks like that darker gray shade your using. (if not its rustoleum your using its a handy heads up anyways)
get some new pix up mate i wanna see this angry guy nearing completion!
mortified at how much i butchered it with the dremel last night, there's some more serious sanding sessions coming up At least i'm now FINALLY content with the shape so it's just a case of ironing out the creases now
not started the vocoder yet pal, thats next once i've sorted out my hatchet job
thanks for the head-up on the paint front
thought i'd give my newly acquired studio lights a whirl in the garage please ignore the vocoder area, it's rough as a badgers proverbial at the minute, just waiting for my putty to arrive before I sort it....
well, managed to iron out some of the creases...and as i'm still waiting for my putty order to turn up thought i'd finally make a start on the vocoder. I have a load of plywood in the garage, but as it's only around 3mm thick, I glued 2 pieces together, cut to shape then rounded the edges...it's not quite finished, but not far off and through more luck than judgement I think i've got it right first time
This is looking fantastic! As I'm in the early stages of my (also seemingly never-ending) first pep build, seeing what you've done makes me want to rush home and continue cranking away. Looking forward to see this bucket completed!
I'm liking your vocoder. Just thought I'd let you know. It has so much more 3d style detail rather than you see on the ABS vac formed manufactured helmets.
just a quick update, although there isn't much to show as things seem to have ground to a very near halt recently mainly due to a lack of funds.
This has forced to rethink things, so the paint is now going on in the form of an acrylic undercoat (thanks atlantia ) now on around coat number 5. Rough as a bears arse at the minute, but its getting smoother with each coat and I will hopefully get it nice and smooth using atlantia's sandpaper backing method :/
mic tips are also finished, so hopefully it will be finished in a week or two....famous last words...
hit a bit of a stumbling block now.....dare I risk trying to handpaint the tube stripes or do i just bite the bullet and buy some transfers? last thing i want to do now is cock it up :sick
