Stop Motion Studio ESB AT-ST!

Re: ESB AT-ST scratch!

Flint, thanks man, hey just for kicks, what color did you shoot on your Nice N build? Looks good to my eye sir!

Greg, thanks buddy, well yeah, im kinda the crash test dummy in the TESB group lol, but i think this head will grace the alloy armature pretty well.
I do feel the rest of the talent in the group will nail her far better than me, but like i said, im on my own right now haha, join us, join us, join us wooooo LOL, much caffeine this morning?

More updates this week, but here are some of the parts on the roof, cut as close as possible to the prop without looking nasty lol. The Matilda part is spot on to the prop.
The M5 plate on the prop is just awful, so i split the difference and made neat cuts, also the T34 grille, its just rough as a dogs leg on the ILM build, so again, ive tidied up the fitment as this is to be a stop motion display piece, not a filming tool!

Re: ESB AT-ST scratch!

Wow! I can see why I like this version better than the ROTJ, overall. Lookin' awesome!:thumbsup

Re: ESB AT-ST scratch!

Yeah, its got more personality compared to the ROTJ, but then im an TESB man through and through, so i guess im biased lol, this movie had all the best props for me, must be the long, long legs :love

Re: ESB AT-ST scratch!

A small and boring update this week, but this should show how the M5 fender is cut, the standoff side mounts have now been added for the armor panels, these will be vacformed as the follow the heads contour on the side and top so i need to get the bucks made soon.
The sd kfz223 hexes have also been added to the domes, so i need the 1/12 Ferrari 312b's now....ouch!
Cant wait to size this up against the armature, im pretty happy over all anyways!

Re: ESB AT-ST scratch!

Lee,
For the base color I used a mixture of Tamiya paints. white, a little light blue (XF-23) and a tiny bit of medium grey (XF-20).

Re: ESB AT-ST scratch!

...and the 1/35 nebelwerfers. Man that is looking good. I've gotta get started on version 2.

Re: ESB AT-ST scratch!

I used two on the Neisen master. I liked the closed openings more than the open ones. Though only one would be needed if your using both the open and closed tubing on the gun mounts.

Isel

That'll be one Nebelwerfer Isel, and thats in the stash!

Actually the nebelwerfer part is only used on the right side. No nebelwerfer part on the left but another part. That's why only one kit is needed as Lee stated. :)

Awesome bro, I see you put the left side 223 part upside down like on the studio mini, that's great to see it taking shape and more when the work is so clean.

Ah I see what you are saying, now that I look through the pics again. Didn't have the new reference pics when I built the first ESB ATST master so there are definitely inaccuracies in my master. Been working on something else so I am way behind at looking at the new ESB ATST pics Jason sourced. I'll stop posting comments based off of my original build and knowledge.:redface

Beautiful work Lee. Again much better than the original. You should be leaving in the glue marks if you want it to look like the original:lol

Not a very good pic of the left hand gun from the stuff that I have, any idea what the part is?

Re: ESB AT-ST scratch!

Im still trying to ID the left gun mount Isel, its proving a pig, its similar to a US tank barrel mount, but i havent bagged it yet, and yes, there is no 'werfer on the left buddy :)
Its a lot of fun though, this is my first "real" full on SS scratch, and although its proving expensive, lol, im having a blast.
Itll have to be sans glue blobs though my friend, i cant live with those lol, but i still may build her as a one sided prop, just for kicks LOL.
I did notice Tim Ketzer also approached this model at one time, so he and Isel both would have only maybe had two to three pics to work from, which does speak volumes for the work they did, awesome!

Re: ESB AT-ST scratch!

I'll start looking for the part for the gun mount. I'll let you know if I find anything. Tim's ESB head was part of the inspiration for the one I built. Though unfortunately he never finished it.

Re: ESB AT-ST scratch!

Cool Isel, its almost half rounded, with some form of angular section, so hard to get a bead on its profile even with the wonderful pics Jason supplied!
I think im getting close on having most the donors now, just a few casts i need from J and still need to bag a few on the feet, but very close overall!
Julien, yes i had to put the one side 223 hex on backwards, rude not to huh lol, it doenst sit too well, there is a slight gap at the bottom where the part flattens, but again, thats how it is on the prop too, so im happy lol.

Re: ESB AT-ST scratch!

Just a test really, im maybe going the sheet styrene route on the side plates, the prop looks vacformed to me, maybe even cut from a spare head pull?
Anyways, i cut one out here in rough, shot it with primer so the rounded corner shows and taped it on, not sure, i reckon it may pass with some polishing?
LOL just tinkering really, not much to show right now, really cant wait to whop this on top of the alloy bits though!!!! Opinions?
