Stop Motion Studio ESB AT-ST!

Thanks John, im glad your looking at her that way, cant wait to seal the deal now with primer, which wont be too long now, then you guys can get some glorious color shots lol.

JP, get in touch with Jason, some parts were being done, but yes, there are a tremendous amount of kits in general on this little build, more than id ever realised!

Been dreading this one, the Flak sheilds!!!! One the prop, there mounted, very hastily to some kind of bulkhead, but hours and hours in on searching, proved useless, this one is a pig for sure.
So, with that said, i scratched something in a similar design, and went with it TBH, they are a little wide, but seeing how much of a tricky, and VERY delicate area this is, there staying as you see 'em LOL.

In the end, i used styrene, and a couple of cut down BT44 turbo's, and it all went swift and as neat as i could get them...sorry for the cheat guys, i did my bestestness LOL.

lee
Kinda makes the stance look neat now, with that armored belly hanging?

Neck boot info!

TESB Walker!

Take two Tyrell P34 front tyres. (thank Allan Hansen for this info too)
Turn on inside out, and place over the neck...:eek
Take the other, turn inside out, and push one half back inside itself, creating a mushroom profile...place over first tyre...:eek

Stand back, and say...hell yeah!

ROTJ Walker

OK im still not nailed on this, so trying various would help!

Take two Lotus MKIII or similar front tyres, turn both inside out, and then turn both into the afforementioned mushroom shape!

Place together as shown in pic, and presto, you should have a suitable neck boot, if not the correct neck boot, like i said, im still not 100% but it is the right type of part used on the prop, just matter of fiddling around with various to get the height correct!

Hey Lee, you knew I was waiting for this update :lol

Man, that's a great find (Allan!). TBH I had taken a look at tires from some of my kits seeing as they had similar looking rubber, but I never thought to flip them inside out!

I think it's possible for the ROTJ that a different kit might be used for the bottom of the boot, but for the top what you have there looks extremely close.

What would you say you spent in donors for this??? Can't wait to see her primered!

Yeah, like i said, for the ROTJ we still need some research, Julien tried the 935 but with no joy!
The TESB info is spot on though, took a while to nail it, but once i knew it was a tyre, Allan then nailed the P34 to be the puppy we petted so to speak! Thanks once more for the help Allan!
As for donor costs...man i have no clue, id guess at price inc the armature, around £700 plus maybe, not sure?
Ill have to do the math someday, just dont let my girlfriend see huh :lol

Oh BTW, i know there were a few guys wanting this info, and i was hoping to use as a trade for other info, but what the hell, i wont become a hoarder, thats just sad!
One guy that i really wanted to have this TBH, was Isel, so here ya go bud, its all out there, now drop that ISD and lets see some walker action!

Looks great Ralphee....how did you guys ever nail the neck part?I assumed it was a scratch built part cast of RTV rubber, which I think I may attempt to tackle at some point?I'm more worried about all the kits/parts needed.I messaged Jason, but no word back.He must be busy with the V3 X-Wing wing armature?

Yeah thanks Allan and you bro, that's a huge and great find, spot on for the TESB and at least the way to go for the ROTJ !
I really think they used the 2 same tyres for the ROTJ neck boot, we just have to find the right one, as Lee said I tried with the 935 tyres (wrong), 312T's(very close), 312T4's (wrong). Lee tried with the P34's and they look way better than my 312T but I suspect it comes from another F1 (or why not another kind of car ;) ).

Well sorry for OOT and let's back to the TESB ! Wow £700, well finally I was lucky to stop before I spent all those kind of money, I would have probably lose my GF, she's not as comprehensive as yours ! :D

Anyway I love the hero and no hero side style, that's IMHO doing the charm of this chicken.
Besides some tiny greeblies (I thought I found one today, the one which goes between the 312B and the Nebelwerfer part, on the upper leg, but the diameter of the hole was a bit too small :() the only thing missing is the side shields. Cant wait to see her painted !

I had nothing, and I mean nothing, to do with IDing the neck boot. That was all 100 percent Lee Ralph! Best damn find EVER in my opinion, too. Talk about hiding in plain sight...

Kudos Lee!

Allan, as always, your too modest, c'mon, you did point ME to the P34 lol, well in the end, it got found, and i think it makes the build, if it was some silly looking boot, it wouldnt have worked so well.

Teaches us all one thing though...throw nothing out, you never know what could be useful nowadays...even tyres...yikes LOL.

Bro right now, my build needs, the inner right leg plate (scratch) head rail (Leichter 222) side armor (vacform) and rear chassis deck, other than that, a few tiny bits here and there on the legs, and she's done and ready for primer!

I had to cheat here and there, but overall, im way happy, its more accurate than i thought id manage, i look at it, and right away, i see the prop in its glory....and that makes it all the more worthwhile!

lee

Lee,

Thanks for the info on the neck boot! I would never have guessed in a million years. I am way behind on everything I've been working on- life is keeping me pretty busy right now. I'll be back in the saddle shortly though. Beautiful build. Can't wait to see it painted.

Isel

Your welcome buddy, glad it will come in handy, and yes, it is a bit of an insane find, glad we got it now though, be nice to "nail" the ROTJ type of tyre now, then its all set in stone!

Hope you can got to building soon bud, im already roughing out my next project....but more on that later hehe!

lee

Lee,

That inside-out kit tire find is just sheer GENIUS. And you're beyond generous to share it with everyone here. Thanks!

I like the look of the ESB AT-ST so much more than the ROTJ AT-ST. IMO, it's a shame they didn't stick with this design.

Cheers Beaz, yeah i love the shape on this walker way better, even as a kid, i always preferred it, shame it wasnt dressed up and used on ROTJ, even more of a shame, it doesnt really exist as we see it in the movie, just a bare armature...tragic loss, like many other wonderful props, can you say X and Y wings????
Sort it out George, your letting history rot away in that archive, jeez imagine if he were to let us through the doors and restore stuff huh LOL.

As for the find, i honestly dont keep much to myself bud lol, i held it for a little while to wiggle a trade off, but came to the realisation, the remaining parts on this sucker may never be found....so it HAS to be shared at this point!

Now again i cry, where are all you armature builders lol, this has been a lonely journey for Allan and me!

lee

Lee:

I definitely appreciate your sharing of information. While I don't have the metal armature, I have been using some of the info in this thread to find donor parts to add to my SS ESB walker kit.

Watching your build has been an education and a pleasure! I can't wait to see what you have on deck to work on next!

Many thanks!

-David

Cheers David, how far are you along on IDing her? Hope its going well for you, are you planning an acrylic set up for the armature?

OK anyways, we now have feet, real free standing feet...woot! Ive added the locking screw that secures one ankle to make sure there is no wandering in the region too!

Ive tapped the right foot plate in the centre at M4 too, this way, once finished, one foot can be bolted down into the base...and were ready to pose away then on one leg LOL.

They sure do bro, it now totally free stands rock solid, but ill still be bolting one foot down for display...accidents do happen LOL.
