Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (Pre-release)

It's also dismissive of legitimate criticism. Say what you will about the films whether good or bad but painting critical fans (and yes we are fans or we wouldn't be participating in this silly debate) as whiners doesn't engender much respect from the opposing side.

So the sidekicks get sidekicks now?

No one likes my Sith Slug? :(

Exactly. I don’t agree with all of the criticisms directed at TLJ but I never claim it to be a perfect movie or ignore its objective faults. Ultimately though, entertainment will always be subjective (which I guess is why I’m the only one that saw or liked Solo).

And sorry, Psab keel, I just don’t like the slug, sith or not. It was a funny picture though

This trailer had some cool shots, but nothing that really got me excited. The first trailer we got grabbed me a lot more. To be honest, I was more disappointed in the fact that it wasn't one of those BTS sizzle reels they usually do...I really enjoyed those and I thought that's what this was going to be.

I have some opinions about the evil Rey shot...sure, Krell had the foldable double-bladed sabers but this just feels too gimmicky for me. It worked better in animation than it does here imo. Maybe if it weren't so slow to open and maybe if the blades weren't so long I wouldn't dislike it so much? Rey usually holds her staff with her hands pretty far apart but this saber hilt doesn't leave much room for her to hold it the same way without slicing off her own hands. Kylo's saber has always been my favorite because it was a fresh design, extremely practical, looks cool as hell, AND was a direct reflection of his character. THAT is good design. This is just too goofy for me, but I've never been a fan of the double-bladed saber to begin with.

I still remain hopeful for the conclusion of the trilogy and the saga. I certainly haven't loved everything in the first 2 movies so far, but I'm still interested in seeing how this plays out.

That's ok HMSwolfe . I was just having fun with it.

I mean I can see the faults in the OT too as much as I love them. That's why not long ago I posted those Pitch Meetings for the OT because they were downright hilarious and they rip those movies apart.

I can agree that entertainment is subjective and everyone's opinion has a place whether for or against. I just get irritated when people pull the whole "You aren't a true fan" or "You just hate everything" or "You just don't understand the new material" or "Your expectations are impossible to meet" or one of the worst "Stop whining."

Love what you love. By all means!

Hate what you hate. By all means!

No Star Wars film is ever going to be perfect and they will never satisfy all of the fandom. I just can't fathom why when they have a solid blue print to work from that no one has gotten close (in my opinion) despite having some of the key players involved and a budget that far surpassed George's wildest dreams.

You're not the only one!! While it did have its problems (namely answering particular questions that never needed answers), I thoroughly enjoyed Solo. I just re-watched it Friday night, actually! It's just a fun little space romp and it got a lot right. I particularly enjoy how it's a nice change of pace in that the climax takes place in some mob boss' office and not a giant space battle or epic lightsaber fight. I appreciate that.

Like, giving Han the surname “Solo” because he was alone? Haha, that’s probably the worst part of the film for me

Yep. That's exactly what I'm talking about

Anyway, sorry to derail the Rise of Skywalker thread. Back to the conversation...

HelloGreedo has a very interesting video on that, where he goes through and reads some reviews from when the film first came out. Very fascinating, highly recommend it.
Well, I know it was divisive at the time. I meant, today it’s kind of held up as the paragon of movie sequels; whenever a sequel does well, it’s touted as the “Empire Strikes Back” of whatever series it is. It’s personally my favorite Star Wars film, that’s for sure. I think I might have seen that HelloGreedo video, though it’s been a while so I can’t say for sure. I know he does mention that Empire had the least changed for the Special Editions; that’s got to say something about it’s enduring quality even in George’s mind.

Where is the space and stars?
I wanna see some actual space in this space fantasy. If the battle is with colourful cosmic dust behind it I’m gonna scream.

In fact I won’t manage a scream just gonna let out a weak sigh.

Theres gonna be at least 2 1/2 more hours of film than whats been released so far, Im sure we'll see some stars

To be fair. There are no stars in pictures/videos taken by Apollo astronauts on the moon, so I'm okay with there being none in the film ;)

Star Wars was a fairy tale. And if you're so superficial that you got nothing out of those films beyond "layzor sordz r KEWL!" then I just feel sorry for you. But I'm also a little angry with you, because as long as you keep buying whatever crap they're shilling without questioning the quality or integrity of their product, they'll continue serving us garbage. You are aware that you're in the minority, right? The majority of Star Wars fans hate these new movies. By supporting them you are helping to ruin it for EVERYONE.

LOL! Me superficial??? Look who is all worked up about a kid's fairy tale. Show me your proof about how I am in a minority. Look at your 12 year old like tantrum.....me superficial? Not likely. On the other hand you are not only superficial but very immature too. Take a chill pill.

Why don't you take an ******* chill pill. You pop into these threads every few weeks or so, and you do nothing but criticize and name call other members over their opinions on a movie for children. Are you trying to take over from Bryancd as the board's biggest troll?
Sorry but you are out of line. Quote me saying names in my previous post. And yes Star Wars was intended for children, take your issue with George Lucas himself. Your f bomb IS out if line. Ive never used that kind of language here.

Until you try to run with a double bladed saber hanging off of your belt and it comes down smashing your knee cap. This design is so much more practical for carrying on your belt.
To be fair a normal hilt has its dangers further up as well...prob not that much for Rey though.
When Luke joins the ewok parade at the end of ROTJ I always kinda half expect the wildly dangling V2 to end the Hamill bloodline...
