Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (Pre-release)

I'm really having a hard time understanding what the point is of Threepio having red eyes.

I'll admit, I'm not thoroughly versed on the canon outside of the films, but I don't recall red eyes being a sign of "evil" droids. Maybe I'm wrong? I dunno, you guys tell me if there was a precedent for this.

Also, we've seen other protocol droids of the exact same style as Threepio. So I don't get it being either a disguise or a sign of an evil version (that maybe isn't even Threepio) -- unless JJ has just decided that we are all too idiotic to understand without some blatant visual reference.

I just can't fathom a good narrative reason for this beyond either the director thinking this looks cool, or thinking that the audience is stupid.

Maybe JJ has been watching 'The Orville'

Each film tires to do something different with the Lightsaber- Maul had the double ended one, Anakin fought with one in each hand, Grievous had four with a couple of mechanical spinners. Kylo had the cross hilt style and now it seems bad ass Rey has a double bladed one which can unfold into a Maul style if needed.

I'm fine with that- it will be interesting to see how the two parallel blades work in combat.

New twists to fights and new toys for Christmas- all in the fine tradition of the franchise

I think she has made her own sabre & because she is used to fighting with a staff, that's why it ends up like a staff

Red blade?.....perhaps the only crystal she could find

The fact that most of the teaser is just recap footage from the previous 8 films is an interesting choice. What little new footage was shown was OK. Nothing exciting or intriguing to me but certainly not bad other than the switch saber at the end. Did they take a cue from those moronic blade builder lightsaber toys? Haha.

I find it telling that some of the ST defenders are even questioning this installment.

To be fair visually it doesn't look bad per se.

Didn't the Zahn books end with Luke fighting his clone? I was never an EU guy...

Wasn't there also a fleet of star destroyers that jumped and were lost in the EU? is that what that is supposed to be?

Maybe I don't want these answered as I haven't read a leak of any kind...

Yes and Yes.

Luke fought Luuke (which how they designated the clone).

And the second book was called the black fleet crises about a fleet of republic ships that was lost during the clone wars as I recall (it was the early 90's when i read it). And the plot of that book is largely the race of both sides to find the fleet.

I'm thinking in this, we have a lost imperial fleet that turns up on the resistance side since the galaxy has to be a bit pissed at the FO for wiping out 5 planets with DSIII.

On the switchblade saber...i don't get it either. Is there a benefit to having a saber with 2 3' long blades 3" apart? Don't see it as much of an advantage in a fight with a single bladed one. As for it being a maul still dual bladed, it makes complete sense. She's had a staff since she was first on screen. Everyone's largely been assuming that since then. On a red blade...luke had a red crystal in his hut on Ach To. Unless the books tell her where to find crystals, that's the only option she has. Just like the massively retconned theory that luke had a green one in ROTJ because he had to build a new one and the green crystal for qui gon's happened to be in obi's hut. Bigger question, why wouldn't the whole saber be there?

They are copying Pong Krell's lightsabers

That folding saber reminded me that, when designing scifi you're supposed to give the audience some known objects or at least some logic that makes the other 99% of rubbish actually credible. Things and logic that people experience in their real life version so their subconcious mind is ok with the scifi version of them.

A folding lightsaber is a risky idea from that point of view cause folding double blade swords are not a thing and it's obvious that it has raised the question in this forum: "does it make sense?" And that's not supposed to happen IMO. We are supposed to swallow any crazy sh** they come up with because our minds get it. When our minds don't get it, it feels weird. So maybe they went a little too far with it.

Not that I care though. It just reminded me what I've read about scifi and building universes. I think The Last Jedi went too far in some mechanical stuff as well and that's ok. Not looking for a debate.

The precedent that came to my mind was Johnny Five when he got mad.

Nothing, no excitement, anticipation. I felt none of that.
TLJ ruined this trilogy for me and there is a very good chance I will not see this movie.

I'll just live with Ep 1-6 and Rogue one.

A single movie from a trilogy ruins what by definition is a set of three movies....three. One of these three (trilogy) you have yet to see. Makes absolutely no sense for me. None.

OMG! the trailer is so amazing, and this movie is going to rock so hard!
A folding lightsaber!!! very cool, and can't believe nobody has thought of it before. And hope SW gets a folding blaster, a folding droid and a folding star fighter.
Rise of Skywalker is going to be the best Star wars movie and will be better than all the original trilogies combine
JJ Abrams , Brian Johnson and Kathleen Kennedy have done a perfect job so far and you guys rock, keep up the great work and ignore all the haters

I'm so emotional but we did it guys

I find the idea of the folding lightsaber kind of cool. I mean, in a universe where a flying hamburger spaceship reaches light speed, people move things with their minds, some of those people are able to hold laser swords (as George referred to them) without suddenly igniting themselves and their surroundings (see Because Science channel in You Tube) etc, etc, etc, a folding lightsaber??? Nice. Cool. Wont loose my sleep over it or throw a tantrum. Really? Movies like this are for fun, not to try and be enlighten or to obtain some transcendental knowledge from them.

Okay guys....this is my theory. Maybe someone already have figure out the same thing but.... What if that Rey with the Sith look is a CLONE??? I mean, when she had the vision in the cave she saw nothing but hundreds of herself?? She may be one of those children Palpatine took and experimented with the Force. (refer to EU stories). Perhaps she was the most powerful the one with the most potential and he decided to clone her.

Even better: Rey is Ben Solos clone. Or Ben Solo is a clone too and only adopted. And both Rey and Ben were found after Palpys death and Leia and Han adopted him.

Although pretty weird it would bring everything full circle.

PT: Anakin being a force clone created by palpy, to create the perfect Sith apprentice.
Cloning technology perfected.
OT: Cloning experiment and hence sith bloodline failed, secret new cloning experiments
ST: the successful clones duke it out to see one rise to the top and eventually finish what had been started. Sith lineage?

It would even be possible to blend ep8 into all of this, except for that casino sequence.

The fight between Kylo and Rey shown in the trailer would make huge sense if that place was their birthplace. DU-DUNNN!

So SW would be a 9 part series about the force and cloning/creation of life. It would be about identity and what defines man. About destinies and free will. Blade Runner, essentially.

As an adult I like that idea. As a kid I would have hated it for being too complicated. As a dad I must say that I would miss tje innocence of the simple good vs. Evil pattern. Kids need this, things get too complicated in life soon enough.
