Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (Pre-release)

After I got over the excitement of the teaser I started having concerns about how they would pull this off (Palpatine returning that is). The I saw an interview of John Boyega, where he said as soon as read that Palpatine was coming back he went to JJ and said that Palpatine coming back doesn't work. JJ laid it all out for John, and John was okay with it. Not that's really groundbreaking or anything. But John is pretty hardcore nerd, and I have a feeling he had some of the same concerns others in fandom have.

Also just knowing that they've been trying to implement Palpatine returning since TFA, means they've had long time to develop this. So that's comforting.

I’m honestly hoping now to see some schlock like this just for the entertainment factor. Checked out pretty much from taking this seriously already so just bring it all on.

I'm pretty sure that in all of my repeated viewings of those films (OT) I never saw any pieces of the death star larger than a few atoms survive the explosions. (Shrug)

I said the same thing when the trailer was released in that we watched all three Death Stars disappear into a ball of flame. Sure there would be wreckage, but not that size if they went supernova.

I still laugh seeing the image of Rey and Kylo dueling on the wreckage as if fighting over the dead corpse of Star Wars itself.

It's blows my mind how much imagery they keep drawing from those first films in order to give meaning to otherwise bland characters and plot.

If anything the teaser with Palpatine's signature cackle was the spoiler, not fan conjecture as to what that could mean...

I said the same thing when the trailer was released in that we watched all three Death Stars disappear into a ball of flame. Sure there would be wreckage, but not that size if they went supernova.

We get a chance to see the explosion of the second Death Star progress from the initial reactor detonation to the final moments as a residual fireball from the surface of Endor- it was not a supernova or even that much of a nuclear explosion.
It was big and powerful, but we have no knowledge of the power source and how it works in that universe. The explosion was progresive, with parts of it moving through channels inside and breaking out at different times across the surface. It did moce slowly eough for the Falcon to leave and it gave Luke enough time to drag Vader from the tower at the 'north pole' of the DS to the hangar at the mid line and say good bye to him before leaving.
I can see large pieces of it remaining, I do have an issue with such a large portion which happens to contain the iconic laser eye remaining.
But it's a movie and things are done for visual and emotional impact, not physics.

Well the laser eye is the most iconic feature of the thing so they have to use it as a visual clue if anyone is going to recognize it as the Death Star. Sure it could have broken off into a piece that big, but it doesn't really work for me.

I just find it annoying that they are always using the iconography and characters from the old films to get an emotional reaction out of fans because their new characters are weakly written and their plot has meandered so far off base that JJ will have retcon most of the last movie.

Why did it have to be the Death Star? Why not something else entirely?

Just do something new. I really wish they didn't made sequels and just started in another place and time in this galaxy.

They did say all they go by is the teaser and a Vanity Fair article.

It did moce slowly eough for the Falcon to leave and it gave Luke enough time to drag Vader from the tower at the 'north pole' of the DS to the hangar at the mid line and say good bye to him before leaving.

Pretty sure that the equator wasn’t the only hangar

Going to have to watch that final departure again to verify, but it did look like the brim trench hangar cluster when you saw the reverse angle of it coming towards you with the explosions behind it.

So far i've loved the sequel trilogy and i'll most likely enjoy TRoS. Having said that, i'm in 100% agreement with you about them constantly using things like the Death Star etc.

I can't help but still feel the same and that they went further in the future before they introduced these characters and stories. Even I, with a pretty poor imagination, could think of ideas that may have been better.

It doesn't matter, Vader died on the shuttle ramp before the reactor was hit.

Because from what we know of Dark Side spirits, they can only possess items or haunt locations. Most likely the Emperor's spirit is trapped in the ruins.

Pretty much every one. In each film we see Jedi do things we haven't seen in a prior film.

On that subject, I don't know what is legends (old EU that is not canon any longer) and what is actual canon.

IMHO... it's hard for me to take comics and novels as canon... Not because of the quality of the stories but because I feel that if a movie and series had a story to tell and it conflicted with info in the books or novels, they wouldn't hesitate to overwrite it. I just don't get the warm fuzzy that the information and details that go into a novel or comic is scrutinized at the level of a movie or series are made. No facts to back it up, just a feeling.

Before Solo, I would have agreed with you. But after Solo and the inclusion of Maul, nothing is off the table for the films.
