Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (Pre-release)

Pretty sure he's be quoted as saying that balance was the absense of the dark side as well. Cause a mini-uproar here since the absence of something doesn't create balance by the definition of the word.
As well, it's stated in the PT, something like "the chosen one will destroy the sith and bring balance to the force".

In George's eyes, even when doing the PT, "balance" was not a literal meaning. It meant: Destroy the sith.

Remember, balance is only a view held by the Jedi, and despite a thousand generations, they are the arbiters of the force (and I detested TLJ).

Too much energy being put into this balance stuff...

I'm afraid that's untrue.....

Palpatine believed in something...

In the beginning, the universe began, in whatever manner and by whatever agency. Ever since, entropy has been increasing. This is not good or bad, it just is how the universe works. All one can do is work to retard or accelerate entropy on whatever scale they are able to affect. Strip away all subjectivity due to time or place, cultures, religions, and other fleeting mores, and that's the closest I get to objective definitions of "good" or "evil".

Very eloquent!

So is anyone else absolutely sick of these MATRIX slow motion cinematic-cancer shots that have somehow now made it to the StarWars movies? Was neat 20 years ago but now the only thing it ever does is immediately pull me out of the film. I almost walked out of the theater with TLJ Luke v Kylo one.. Glad to see I can expect one in what I assume is the final Rey Kylo confrontation lead up

I think it's already been discussed, but I seem to recall the only bits of slo-mo in the OT being when Vader cut down Obi-Wan (to get more dramatic flutter to the robe dropping to the floor) and Luke in the cave when "Vader" appeared (emphasize surreality of the moment? convey the time-slowing effect of sheer panic?). As out of place in later films as seeing characters' visions or flashbacks.

My bad if it has. I didnt bother looking in the previous pages prior to my post. I actually totally forgot about the Vader Obi-wan one its so natural. And the Luke cave one like you said, I've always felt helped create that surrealism of a vision or dreamlike state more than anything else. The slow mo in the OT was definitely worlds more naturally weaved within the story and cinematography of those films. Not like these endless garbage "action shots" we have in films today. That right there to me shows the difference between a group of people trying to create movie magic, and a giant corporation just interested in creating a hastily engineered flashy product that will make them money regardless of its inherent quality

You know just recently I’ve saw the behind the scenes footage of that scene

Prowess really swings hard when cutting him down

I wish they kept that scene in there, showed real anger inside Vader

Yep hated that shot,.....cool in its day, but it looked corny & dated in TLJ,.....there was another Matrix style slo mo speed ramp shot in TFA, when the Falcon went into free fall on Jakku as Finn fired the broken turret gun at the TIE.....it wasnt as bad as the bullet time effect in TLJ,....that was cheesy

Stupid matrix garbage. Star Wars ruined Star Wars!

Like some others mentioned above, it works well in the cave scene by adding tension and an otherworldly effect to what is basically a vision sequence. Personally I don't mind the use of slow motion to add drama to a moment or provide a clearer sense of what is happening in an action sequence but it has been over used since the Matrix did bullet time. It didn't bug me in the trailer however I found the trailer unimpressive... MOST unimpressive. ;)

Why do you some of you keep referring to Rey flipping over tie fighter as Matrix slo-mo? The point of matrix style is to freeze/slow down motion while the camera keeps moving.

Closer would be Schneider, but he slows and speeds up impacts.

This is just slow mo... like any other movie wanting you to see an action by slowing it.

If she hopped over the tie in real time it wouldn’t look dramatic. It would look like the overdone flipping in the prequels.

So I’m good with it.

Haters are going to bitch about everything and anything. Even if they have to make stuff up.
