LFL also made a big deal about Phasma was a woman. I remember the actress being sent out on press tours doing interviews about how what a first it was to have a woman as a main villain.
They could have just as easily cast a man for the role because other than her voice you'd never know there was a woman playing the part. She never once removed her helmet. Yeah they're real trail blazers. #eyeroll. Especially Rian who killed her off to get her out of the way rather than take the opportunity to develop her, even slightly.
Sadly empty platitudes and virtue signaling was more important than telling a good story. It just blows my mind that having a clean slate to start from and this was the best they could do.
No one’s denying that money was made off of the OT, and sometimes in some less than savory ways. The point is, those cash grabs like you’ve referenced were ancillary, and the main things (the films) were to a much higher quality and standard. No one cares if a TLJ coloring book featuring porgs feels like a soulless product directed at very young children. People do care if the main films feel that way.Star Wars has always been a cash cow. Don't blame the farmer for squeezing the milk, when the last owner made millions from it. I mean, let's face it, there have been points waaaay before Disney when SW has been embarrassingly milked...

Okay, again, arguments really can’t be made in favor of the ST when they’re being founded on the universally agreed-upon worst parts of Star Wars. No one is claiming that the OT are perfect films, just way, way better than anything that has followed in this franchise. (And also, really the only entries that can actually be considered films and not products). The Empire's elite legion was defeated by teddy bears with stone age weaponry.
And then there's Jar Jar.
Or perhaps just pointing out a double standard. Not to mention if your go to defense is to trash the originals as a means to deflect criticism of the ST, then maybe there is some merit to the points being raised.
All studio funded films are products. You can blame Thomas Edison for the commercialization of the film industry. In fact, Hollywood itself was founded to get out of the commercialized movie factories back in NYC. Ironic, no?Okay, again, arguments really can’t be made in favor of the ST when they’re being founded on the universally agreed-upon worst parts of Star Wars. Isn’t that…exactly what you’re doing? Attacking my argument based off of some perceived attack on someone else, rather than actually say anything? And have done every time you chime in here? I don’t see you offering any concrete arguments for the ST, just popping in every now and then to say “Oh, your argument is bad because of Latin phrase that I know or yet another person misusing a word.” Try, I don’t know, contributing to the conversation? What a shocker...Someone has to resort to an ad hominem simply because someone dares have a different opinion on the merits of a film.
It's a shame that grown men resort to such nonsense. Especially over films (braces for reply calling me a name, because I called them films)....
