The tree in ESB wasn't what was making the Force, it was just a place that was strong with the Dark Side. Why that is, we don't know, but it wasn't the tree as far as we know. If TFA just had a place like that, that was a Force nexus, for lack of a better term, where the Force was different/stronger, that would make more sense. I don't really want any more explanation for the Force because I think the midichlorians were really pushing it.
Also, how would the Skywalker lightsaber be imbued with the force of it was dependent on midichlorians? Also, maybe it's just me, but R2 seems to be a little force sensitive to, like waking up when they got the map.
...R2 I felt was given word from Luke that Rey would be coming, and so he ran in low power mode until she showed up, but there has always been something special about that little droid, even if I'm not one to accept that he is potentially Force sensitive
i think the finer points of the force don't matter. Let it be mystical. Let it be shrouded in darkness. If you need an explanation as to how the force works, you've missed the point of the force.
I can't believe people still think midichlorians were meant to actually be the force when they are just how people communicate with it. It was genetic even in ROTJ, Father has it, I have it, my sister has it.
I'm sure this has been discussed... however...
Have we touched on Rey's dreams of the ocean and island? Will these visions she's had be explained?
yup... pretty much.
Has to be more to it... Was the Force guiding her to Luke or better yet... was Luke guiding her?
Why? I think everything we see Rey experiencing in TFA has nothing to do with any outside influence other then the Force working through her. Luke may have been aware of her if he experienced similar visions that portended her arrival but I don't see Luke or snyone else's machinations orchestrating her journey other then The Force.
It could also have been as simple as her dreams being a premonition that she would go to Ach-To, and Kylo was able to glean that when he broke into her mind. I don't think she "knew" where the island was, or what it was. i think--for her at least--it was something that haunted her dreams.
