The ugly side of humanity... and the internet gives even them a platform.

I personally think this phenomena is at the root of many of the social problems we have nowadays... simply because in the past this sort of thing would have had very little--if any--exposure. But because of the internet, it gains traction.

The ability to post vile and toxic comments with pure anonymity, and without repercussion, are the reasons, IMO, social media is slowly aiding to the decline of having a basic moral center. Some people are cruel by nature but social media amplifies that cruelty in SO many ways. Imagine how these same people would react / respond if they actually HAD to show/post their identity or worse (or better), suddenly find themselves in a room face to face with the very person they've targeted!

That would be a great movie! ;)

Imagine if the RPF required you to post your real indentity? Be fascinating to see who would still here. I know for a fact some here are afraid of their own given name being posted. That says a lot about the warm blanket of anonymity.

I didn't realize how bad it had become until I heard that the actress playing Rose had deleted her Twitter account. Any one of us would be thrilled to be in SW film - regardless of how well the film does or doesn't do or how good/bad the script is. We would all JUMP at the opportunity to be part of the SW universe. But to attack the actors/actresses for simply doing their job is beneath contempt. It's disgusting!
Apparently Robin Williams' daughter deleted her Twitter account too shortly after her father died due to comments, trolls and the like about Robin's suicide...that really is just rock bottom.

Hey B,

I'm a bit of a private person so I can certainly understand wanting to keep somethings private. But... we're talking about the cruelty of others (based on the TLJ - can't veer too far off course) and their conveniently hiding behind the warm blanket you mentioned.

What's your last name, Bryan?

I would still be here. : )

I love this community and the people here too much to want to sever the connections I've made here. Plus I was a longtime lurker before I started posting and have enjoyed seeing all the talented people here.

Oh crap! We might be related! It's the Quinns and the Dunns in the Irish side of my family.

Dang...now I know what McCain must've felt like when he found out he was distantly related to Obama. :lol

I’m actually 50% Dutch, 25% German, and 25% English best I can tell. I grew up in Greenwich CT which is super WASP’y. :)

I hope I’m McCain in that math, he’s my guy here in AZ, lots of respect for that man.

Are we pretending that the RPF is being used to spread hate against certain groups now? Give me a break:lol

It's not strange that people don't want to use their real name, we do live in a time were ones political ideas can get you fired from your job.

I would have no problem with registering under my real name, the only people that would have a problem with that would probably be re-casters and frauds.

No Irish? Huh. Well, I guessing you married a Dunn, and have done what a lot of liberal men do these days: take the last name of your wife.

Good grief, no. She was a Kauffman 50% German, 50% Czech. That 25% English may be Irish and somewhere along the line it got whitewashed. And no one who knows me would call me liberal.

s.

No, but it would be interesting to see if the tone of some people’s post dramatically change.
