Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Pre-release)

Nice clip with Harrison Ford talking a bit about the movie and SW in general:

It's nice to see Harrison having fun... A very kind and thoughtful response about GL. He's a class act here. ... I found Jimmy's response to him saying TFA was " really, really, good " and that JJ "...has made an incredible movie " the most interesting part. Jimmy says he has "heard this" from many people in the biz, who would have told him "the truth" if they knew otherwise. .... So I'm starting to raise my expectations, is that a bad thing? Lol... I had originally told myself, as long as its even slightly better than the overall PT, I would be a happy camper....

I just keep reminding myself that most people's expectations for TFA are still comparing to the PT. When they say "it's good!" I take it to mean "the dialogue isn't wooden! The actors are acting! There are sets, not all green screens!" My expectations remain relatively low for the real drama of it.

Us diehard SW fans looked at the words of JJA, Kasdan, Kennedy, etc, two years ago and realized that it was a new ballgame. We didn't need to worry about the prequels' Lucas-specific drawbacks dominating the future of SW anymore.

But most of the public, and even most of the entertainment industry, is not necessarily aware of that. Not like we are. They might have heard the words but they're still waiting to see the results with their own eyes before they believe how much it has changed.

Yeah, it's always fun to watch interviews with him. Considering his past apathy (or even disdain) for SW, it's nice to see that he seems genuinely impressed and happy with what they've come up with. Now I know he isn't exactly an unbiased source but I do believe he is being genuine in his praise here. "Promising" people will like it is a pretty bold statement coming from him, and one he wouldn't necessarily have to make if he were just going through the motions of promoting the movie. I also agree that Jimmy's statements are interesting too, implying insiders are liking what they're seeing/hearing too. Regardless, I am remaining cautiously optimistic and will continue to use the PT as the yardstick to how good the new movie(s) is. If it's at least better than the overall PT, I will be satisfied. Anything beyond that will just be icing on the cake.

Interesting lightsaber that kid is holding. The neck is obviously reminiscent of Luke's ROTJ saber but the rest of it doesn't look like any canon design I can think of.

There's a good chance Hasbro/whoever just made up a saber, but yeah. Wouldn't be the first film where some important detail was accidentally leaked by merchandise photos and product tie-ins.

That's the base unit from the new build-your-own-lightsaber set:

What I find more intriguing is the emitter end and blade in the ad. Not sure if simple photo-manipulation or if that's a "Force FX" version of that same base lightsaber. I remember the old lightsaber builder kit's bits were all based on PT and OT lightsaber components. There are parts in this new set that follow that trend, but this main hilt that's in the image on Hasbro's site isn't one I remember seeing anywhere, even in part (though it's reminiscent of many).

We might have. *shrug* No way to know til December. Maybe. If it even is a relevant thing, it might not be so until Episode VIII. I am absolutely loving not knowing. :D

God I love red letter media

My Heroes... and while I have no idea if what they predict falls in line with leaked info, I do like the idea that IF there is another deathstar, that it's successful and they fail at stopping it in the first movie.
