Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Pre-release)

it's weird going back to the beginning of the thread. There are a bunch of folks who were making shot in the dark guess on stuff that came true. Lots of stuff that didn't. I can't believe it's been three years, and that it's almost over. Please don't let the world end or anything...

When I first heard Lucasfilm had been sold to Disney, I literally thought it was a joke. I was absolutely shocked and even more so when I heard Ep.7 was on the way. George had been so adamant in recent years that there would be no ST and I figured Lucasfilm would be his right to the end. It's an interesting time...

Anyway, I thought this little commercial was interesting...

I'm not sure how much can be read into it but it looks to be using movie assets (FO stormtroopers, FO star destroyers, TFA C-3PO, Kylo's shuttle, etc.). It's also interesting to see what looks like OT-style AT-ATs (as opposed to the others glimpsed in the Korean TV spot) and the girl that's dressed up as Rey seems to have some useful abilities. Also a good look at C-3PO...

So does this confirm that Rey is a Force user (not that anybody thought she wasn't) or is this just a fun commercial and it means nothing?

I'm sure she is a Force User... but I wouldn't necessarily read into this commercial.. it's just that: a commercial. I don't believe they're giving away any plot hints in this Duracell ad.

Well they could've easily just had the girl wear generic Jedi robes like the boy and yet they have her dressed as Rey so I dunno...

Interesting lightsaber that kid is holding. The neck is obviously reminiscent of Luke's ROTJ saber but the rest of it doesn't look like any canon design I can think of. Where is this image from?

Toys R Us catalog

Seems to me there are subtle hints being tossed around

There's a good chance Hasbro/whoever just made up a saber, but yeah. Wouldn't be the first film where some important detail was accidentally leaked by merchandise photos and product tie-ins.

Do I find it coincidence that Duracell shows her with a saber and a force user? And TRU shows her with a saber? Nope!!!!

She's pretty obviously going to be a Force user just from the context of being another young person lost on a desert planet at the start of a Star Wars trilogy. I mean, come on.

What's more intriguing (to me) is the suggestion here that she may have or receive her own lightsaber in TFA. We don't know much about the third act of the movie yet, and there have been no rumors that I know of to that effect but it's possible. That this saber looks a bit like Luke's but with its own twist sure adds fuel to the idea that she is or will be his apprentice, doesn't it.
