Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Pre-release)

Right now he's batting .500 in the SW realm. That's a pretty good average. But you give him 3 more films to destroy his franchise and it would have gotten seriously ugly.

Personally I don't see how the vitriol could get any worse; he's already pretty well maligned by a majority of the fanbase.

If Lucas was going to do another trilogy post-ROTJ, it would be more along the lines of the prequels both in story and execution. Unlikable characters, overuse of CGI and issues involving politics. The worst kind of story you can tell is one where something big is brought up (The prophecy of 'the one' who will bring balance to the Force) and we're simply supposed to take the character's word that it's important. Khan having the Genesis Device while on quest for bloody revenge? That's bad. The Force being unbalanced? What the heck are they talking about?

But who knows. Maybe the same thing will happen with the Force Awakens. Someone brings it up, everyone says that the Force has indeed awakened, but it doesn't really matter because nothing about how the Force is used is different at all.

Count me as one of those who wants to see what Lucas would have done with sequel series. No doubt it my mind that we could've seen something great.

I don't know about THAT...

But I would bet anything that they woulda been better than the PT.

I think he might've hired back people like Muir etc that helped create the look and feel of what sold us all on the OT. (I don't know if those people wouldve came back. But could've been great if so!)

He would have had a team of people once again just doing what he wanted without much of a collaborative effort the way this new crew has been doing things.

It's bad to say you don't want the franchise's own creator who made the Star Wars universe not be involved (such as me, haha), but he needs to just stay the creator and let the amazing people who know how to tell the stories and visuals in the way that he just can't seem to do effectively to do what they are experts at. I LOVE what Lucas has created and brought into our lives. I just don't think he's the best person to direct it. Who knows what would have happened if Lucas directed 'Empire' and 'Jedi.'

I'll bet if the prequels still maintained the same storyline as they did, but under a different director and creative team, we would have gotten 3 very different and more engaging films. These next ones need that so badly and I think they are going to nail it.

How could they have been? By the time of getting around to any sequels, George would be even further down his slippery slope than he was with the prequels. I think he reached a point of (insert whatever psychosis) thought that the talent and artistic contributions of the OT-era crew were simply expendable, and because he had paid for their talent to begin with it was his to discard with whatever scene was on the chalkboard for alteration into the digital world. Everyone has their particular beef with whichever scene gets under their skin the most, some obviously to the point that any alterations were made. I knew he was over the edge with Vader and the "Nooooooooooo!" business in Jedi. To say nothing of just how sloppy some of it became (to wit: the obvious cut-and-paste extension of Jabba's palace door).

Anyway...

Like I said, there's no doubt in my mind that could've been something great. It could be great to hire back people from the OT, I think they did some amazing work... I'm not sold that it's necessary to recreate the OT to make an amazing Star Wars movie.

I know bashing the prequels are the trend to do... but, there are some great things going on there... I'll be happy if JJ does half as good at the PT. (...and it's not worth rehashing those arguments).

I agree with you within the context they would be given any relevant autonomy or their thoughts and opinions any credibility. I'm just with the camp that did not see any flexibility from George on that, at least up until the time he was wrapping up Episode III. If he had regained whatever spirit he had during the OT after that, I'd've given any attempt on his part to do the sequels a very fair chance, but only if...

Brian Muir might have been hired for it either way ... and he has been. According to his filmography he has been working on 2-3 movies each year in the past few years, with the last being Star Wars VII.

I think in five years time we can all look back and compare the 3 eras of the Star Wars films better

The differences in style, creativity and writing will be clearer

or just Warwick making stupid selfie jokes with pictures that weren't even taken near the production?! That's my guess, anyway
