Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Pre-release)

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Is that the 2006 release with the laserdisc transfers?

I don't see anything that says laser dics on the DVD cases. But I do see a 2006 copyright in small print. So I would say..2006 they pushed these out.

I'm gonna guess that these are the same DVDs that were included with the DVD set in 2006, two years after the initial DVD release in 2004. If so, they were laserdisc transfers.

Yep. We're talking about the same set released in 2006 with the laserdisc transfer on the bonus disc.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

For the past few years I have had no interest in Star Wars, after the prequels I just completely lost interest. This involved me selling off all my collection including my stormtrooper armor and collection of MR lightsabers.

But you know what? for the first time in a long time I'm feeling excited, I'm hopeful that finally after all these years I'm going to see something that will be a Star Wars movie. Sure I could sit and worry about JJ's lens flares, but I'm not going to pass any judgement until I've seen the movie. Maybe I'm setting myself up for a massive disappointment, but this time I'm willing to take the chance.

Now if only I'd held onto that armor...

The REAL cure for disinterest in Star Wars is having kids. Seeing them get excited about it makes me okay with Jar Jar.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

It would be interesting to see how the massive Imperial army handled the change of power. I would bet most wouldn't care as long as their checks keep coming. I'm sure that like most real world armies they believed they were simply keeping the galaxy safe from the terrorist rebellion. Imagine if the power struggle of the OT simply shifted from a small rag tag rebellion to a small rag tag empire faction bent in destruction.

I agree, and that's an angle that doesn't seem to have really been touched upon in Star Wars except maybe the EU. However, I'd think that by now there would be few, if anybody, left in what remains of the Imperial military who really still believe that the Empire and the Emperor were not truly evil and the Rebellion was just a bunch of terrorist scum. That's not to say that if there are Imperial forces still left that they are all true believers, I'm sure that all or most of the officers are but I'd imagine that for most of the rank and file it's either just a paycheck for them or they were conscripted and/or face immediate execution if caught deserting.

Regardless, that would be an interesting angle to explore or at least touch upon in these new movies. If they are to fight remaining Imperial forces/warlords how would the New Republic, particularly Luke, Han, & Leia, feel about killing troops that would rather nor be fighting or fighting for the New Republic?

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

that's not Luke's...

On second thought upon closer inspection you're right. Just a generic saber.

I do like the idea of Luke becoming the bad guy though. Would make for some great viewing but would also cast the OT in a VERY different light.

I don't see any lip. I see something along the lines of the 3C stunt.

But it's clearly just a generic saber. Not meant to be anyone.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

I think it would be really lame if Luke went to the dark side. I mean seriously? Wouldn't it kind of render all of his sacrifices, including risking his life to save his father, kind of pointless?

If Luke could resist the temptation to turn when his own father tried to sway him, and even DEFIED the Emperor (who as far as we know is the penultimate form of all evil in the SW universe) by NOT turning, but believing that his father loved him enough that Anakin could be saved, then who or what could possibly make Luke betray that belief? If Luke was going to fall, it would have been at the climax of Return of the Jedi. He would have killed Vader, killed the Emperor, and declared himself ruler of the universe. But he didn't.

It would completely diminish his entire character to do that now in the new films. That's the reason why I never got into the Dark Empire storyline, and felt it was weak writing. Besides, that story was already told in the Prequels with Anakin's fall. Do we really need to retread that plotline?

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Maybe Leia and Han have a kid who is a little like Dexter, Luke tries to save him, but gets killed in the process, sort of like Ben. Then, enter a new hero.
