Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Pre-release)

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

I would argue the opposite. Who is there to pick up after the Empire? No other large nations, just a league of rebels. That end battle was their ENTIRE fleet. Hardly anything to control the galaxy with.

There is nobody to pick up the weak. It's a situation with a power vacuum and there will be many people/factions who try to fill it. Like Afghanistan after the initial war. The country broke into sections controlled by warlords and that's WITH a large strong nation trying to make sense of things.
Individual worlds can still be powerful and wealthy and by immediately forming an alliance can help those who need it. This isn't the ancient world where there is nothing but vacuum outside the power of the Roman or whatever Empire. Sure, the Empire was oppressive, but that still doesn't mean that they left the Galaxy dry of resources. I'm not seeing anything that reminds me that things will be like we see in Afghanistan... a country broken by several invasion attempts and an oppressive religious rule, where BIG outsiders tried to interfere - very different scenario from anything in the Star Wars series. If this is a return to the Republic, then there really isn't a power vacuum - it's just a change of government style. Things got pretty well organized and set up after the French Revolution. Things were also pretty well organized after the Cuban revolution - of course... he just formed an even worse rule. The same happening in Russia after the revolution.

Which... usually is the case... those replacing the evil regime often tend to be even more evil, when it comes down to it and just used the population and the cause to put himself in power and those loyalists following him will get drunk with the power.

So, I'm not seeing a vacuum. I'm seeing a change to something potentially worse - all in the name of the revolution.

The big question then is... who is this new evil? And it would just be lame if he's a force user. If they go that route that is.

It still creates a conflict for our heroes... 'cause... they still believe in the cause... however, the cause is being used against them and the people, but anyone questioning those in charge will be deemed sympathizers of the old regime. It's a much more adult premise where you are not fighting only a visible enemy, but an invisible one as well, as you cannot really trust anyone.

It'll be like East Germany.

Hmm... maybe a too adult setting for Star Wars which is usually more B/W regarding good and evil.

I'm waiting for the Special Edition in which they reverse all the tinkering Lucas did and restore the Original Trilogy movies to their original theatrical versions. :D
YES! The unaltered original theatrical version. WOOOOO. I need it. If I get it, then all disdain towards Lucas' tinkering will be gone - he can tinker ALL he wants, as long as I have the option to get the version I love.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

I wonder if they would add in the extra luke and biggs scene that was supposedly shot.

Cool artwork. I can see it now. That's the last recorded location of the MF and after being nursed back to health, Solo married a crime lord's daughter and inherited the reigns after his death.

I see what you're trying to get at but I guess we're going to have to agree to disagree. Power vacuums are all about comparative power. Nothing in the Star Wars galaxy is even remotely as powerful and large as the Empire. All of a sudden a million systems are without leadership (Hell, even just the news that the Emperor is dead would likely take years to travel) so their local governers would likely take over. Yes, some would join a new Republic under the rebels but I imagine many would seek power for themselves. One planet can help another planet, but not a million planets. That would be like saying the US political structure collapsed and then Seattle helps all the other States pick up the pieces. Wouldn't happen.

Which... usually is the case... those replacing the evil regime often tend to be even more evil, when it comes down to it and just used the population and the cause to put himself in power and those loyalists following him will get drunk with the power.

Agreed here!

Half agreed. The revolution is what causes the vacuum. Think French Revolution, the King is killed and a new "democracy" put in place. There is now a vacuum where the King's power once was and the road to it is paved with the Guillotine.

The big question then is... who is this new evil? And it would just be lame if he's a force user. If they go that route that is.

I think to an extent it would have to be. At least someone on that side would have to be a force user. Lightsaber fights are no fun if the other guy doesn't have a lightsaber. ;)

Ya, I was talking about this earlier but as Solo mentioned. Far too "reality" for Star Wars.

It'll be like East Germany.

But without the firm established rule of a superpower. ;) You know, a vacuum. :lol

Really enjoying this discussion BTW, you make great points!

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

They released the trilogy (4-6) back in the day in its original theatrical versions. I have them on DVD. It came in a metal tin with double doors. Each movie had to 2 discs. One was the OG while the other was Lucas crap loaded new versions.

I tried to load pictures of the tin n DVDs. Not sure it will work being on my phone. So sorry if it does. I bought the DVDs maybe like 6 years ago at best buy.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Han let billy dee fly after the ewok party. Bad idea..cause you know as billy says, It works everytime. Malt liquor + falcon light speed don't mix.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

For the past few years I have had no interest in Star Wars, after the prequels I just completely lost interest. This involved me selling off all my collection including my stormtrooper armor and collection of MR lightsabers.

But you know what? for the first time in a long time I'm feeling excited, I'm hopeful that finally after all these years I'm going to see something that will be a Star Wars movie. Sure I could sit and worry about JJ's lens flares, but I'm not going to pass any judgement until I've seen the movie. Maybe I'm setting myself up for a massive disappointment, but this time I'm willing to take the chance.

Now if only I'd held onto that armor...

That's exactly how I've felt, at times anyway. With the disappointment of the prequels and GL's inane, botchjob rework, it's left a bad taste in my mouth. I've never given up on it entirely as I keep the memories of what it once was, but now, it's like a breath of fresh air being able to look forward to it again.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

I don't see anything that says laser dics on the DVD cases. But I do see a 2006 copyright in small print. So I would say..2006 they pushed these out.

I'm gonna guess that these are the same DVDs that were included with the DVD set in 2006, two years after the initial DVD release in 2004. If so, they were laserdisc transfers.
