I like both franchises as well. I just prefer Star Wars. It's all part of the fun. Standing in line for the midnight premier. Debating about Star Destroyers vs Enterprise. I wish Battlestar Galactica would pop back on the scene in a big way. Would be nice if another franchise became as large.

I have read that a big screen release remake is being planned for BSG. I'm on the fence with that as I feel its been done and done well with the syfy BSG series. I loved that show and Edward James Olmos is Adama to me moreso than Lorne Greene and Michael Hogan as Colonel Saul Tigh was awesome!
Like the new SW I will have to see a cast lineup for me to get excited about another BSG movie on the big screen... its like the superman franchise... they keep retelling the first story too often... so, just how many times can we see the story of caprice being attacked by the cylons and sending a rag tag fleet on a mission to find a new home called Earth? But if done well I'll be in line!

when I was a kid BSG on TV was gold! it was late 1978 and for a small town kid that only got to see SW once and there was no otehr way to see it again (I finally saw it a second time upon its 1982 re-rerelease! ) BSG was a fantastic substitute in the meantime and it was on every week... I ate it up like my bowl of count chocula! It was pretty darn good for 1978 television production other than the mustache twirling Baldar and the fact that the cylons were never really scary to me unless they were tailing you in a cylon raider.

The syfy series was awesome and like Star Trek it too is a different animal but still in the same genre. I just love sci-fi/fantasy films.

I debated for a long time whether to show them the PT after we watched the OT...

In the end I decided that I'd rather them not have the same chip on their shoulder that I do. When I first saw ROTJ I was a kid so I loved the Ewoks. Now I look back on it and yes they're cheesy, but they're part of my nostalgia so it doesn't bother me.

My kids will feel the same way about Jar-Jar and "roger roger". That's a GOOD thing. Already my kids prefer the OT but why raise them to hate something that they instead could love?

FOR ME there are only 3 Star Wars films and 3 (2 really) Indy films. For my kids it's more and I'm cool with that.

An interesting take, and one of the only ones that's ever made me question my fundamentalist position.

Part of my decision, though, also comes from wanting my kids to be able to appreciate "old" films. I grew up watching newer stuff, but also watching old black and white films with my folks, so I had an appreciation for a wide range of stuff. As a result, now that I'm older, I don't disregard older films and can appreciate them even if they don't have the latest and greatest f/x, because I take them as products of their time. I'd kinda like to give that to my kids (when I have them) too.

Although, I suppose that, by the time I have kids, the PT WILL be old films. Oh look! Another grey hair just sprouted.

After the prequels... Yes, there's nowhere left but up! :lol

There are several names of directors that will challenge that statement. I'll only name one: Uwe Boll!

Let's just pray that none of those directors ever get their depressing hands on this franchise.

Wouldn't be a problem if people just stuck to the 2006 extra feature DVD's with the theatrical cuts.

Than they would ask "Who shot second?". You see, you've gotta be a little more specific than that when it comes to those little kids. Han didn't shoot first. He was the only one that shot anyone period.

I feel the same way, the ewoks were cool when I was 11,(wookies would have been way cooler) as an adult I can't seem to apply the same level of critique to the OT that I normally would to another film, my nostalgia holds me back from doing it opcorn
My daughter and I have had long discusions about why and how the movie was changed, she is eagerly awaiting Disney releasing a restored OT without the "upgrades" (ewok eyelids?? really) so she can see how it all began. Hopefully she'll still be interested by the time they actually do it :lol She prefers the OT (97 SA)over the PT any day of the week, she never asks to see "AOTC" more like "lets watch Dooku fight" LOL. The PTs are watched with the skip button at the ready! All that said she, my wife and I are really excited to see SW in the theater together in 2015.
I'll take 2 years of high hopes even if it means a firey crash as I leave the theater.:behave

I can't believe you said that! That's all I ate as a kid, and I still have (somewhere...) the plastic Count Chocula figure from the mail away offer on the box in the 70's! :lol

I honestly can't say who would or wouldn't make a proper director for this franchise. All I can do is keep fingers crossed that lightning will strike again as it did in '77, '80 and (though some would argue this one...) '83. I actually enjoyed ROTJ...

The Count Rules! I also loved Cocoa Puffs.... I continued to eat a bowl of children's cereal of some sort as a night time snack right up to about a year and a half ago. I am on a health kick now so no sugar, no bread, high protein... that and 50 to 80 pushups and a few crunches and I went from 175 to 140 lbs and a 34" waist to a 31" in about a year.... oh how I miss my bowl of Cocoa Puffs!

So ya, I am highly anticipating the news on a director... this and a cast list. I too liked RotJ ... when Luke said, Soon I'll be dead, and you with me to the emperor I thought it was really going to happen! I mean, Vader cut off his hand... Vader was Lukes father... Vader cut down Ben and I was surprised before so I thought Luke was going to make the ultimate sacrifice... oh well, stupid kids movie! JK

The Count Rules! I also loved Cocoa Puffs.... I continued to eat a bowl of children's cereal of some sort as a night time snack right up to about a year and a half ago. ROTJ was the ticket for me primarily because of the Emperor. To my mind, there's still nothing like Ian McDiarmid's performance with that character. He was creepy and cunning and brilliantly loathsome - British stage-actor material that he pulled off so well. While we're all in dream-and-speculation mode, I'll say I hope to see more of him somewhere down the road before the ride's all over!

I think if it doesn't make the cut into cinema flicks, then certainly the period between Ep. III and Ep. IV could be made into t.v. shows. That's roughly 20 years of imperial high-drama! The Emperor and Vader at their Sithly best! Who from the OT brigade wouldn't go for that?!

I don't do much with cereals anymore. Years ago I was into the "mueslix" type cereals with dates and nuts and that sort, really scrumptious stuff, but my favorite brand of that disappeared from the shelves and I just went cold turkey on cereal. And I'm like you in trying to watch what and how much I eat. I've done reasonably well recently, having gone from 190 lbs to 170 just by avoiding late night snacking...:lol

oh I know, it was just in showing if Maul can survive a fall in a shaft cut in half then the emperor could have survived his fall in the shaft... he was more powerful than Maul after all! So we could in theory get the emperor and Ian McDiarmid back!

They did clone him in an EU novel...But I think they need to blank slate this beyond the inclusion of a few of the OT folks to give it symmetry.

its amazing how much weight falls off when you stop the before the bed snacks and stop drinking colas!

I'm with you on that... there is so much time there that could be used for some great action.... Vader helped the Emperor hunt down and destroy the jedi... well, that could mean anything during that time... perhaps while Ben and Yoda took their vacation time there were a few other Jedi trying to figure out what the hell happened or went into hiding to bide their time to fight vader as well... so we could easily have films or tv series of vader fighting jedi and palpy helping him to find them, training Vader in the ways of the dark side to make him stronger... Vader commanding troops and fighting smaller resistance from various worlds trying to stay out of imperial entanglements.... a young Han and Chewie avoiding imperial entanglements, dropping their cargo at the first sign of an Imperial Starship :lol Building of the Death Star... perhaps show a band of rebels trying to steal the plans for the death star only to be confronted by a saber wielding Vader and meeting their doom! But where did those plans go? or perhaps they were but the first to try to steal the plans... WE can still see Artoo and Threepio under the command of Capt. Antilles on the Tantive IV... if only:cry

there is a lot that could still be classic star wars in that time period
