Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Pre-release)

Yeah, it does kinda suck that KK revealed that. I actually kinda thought Phasma would die.

I'm already past due to stop following this thread and TFA in general. I think I can hold out for 2 weeks. Lol!

I'm not going to debate what is or isnt a spoiler, but I really wasn't expecting info like that to be in this thread. I don't care who released it. Obviously I made the choice to read this thread, but I really feel info like that shouldn't be in this thread, no matter the source. No need to read this thread anymore.

Again, and hopefully for the final time, this entire discussion thread is predicated on the basis of discussing this film within only the context of what is released officially via the films creators through various media outlets. It was created as an alternative to a discussion of leaked information that was NOT officially released. A great deal of official discussion and within this thread recently was about the Starkiller base. For some, that was also likely a bridge too far. But linking an LA Times interview with Kathleen Kennedy is well within the purview of this thread.

I was surprised as well. No one knew that one.

Is this your rules of what a spoiler is considered?

If I found a potential plot point on the internet,... official or rumour & I wanted to post it somewhere on this site I would consider my fellow members,....perhaps they might be annoyed if I posted this on the spoiler thread,....luckily there is another thread which was created for such posts,.....so I would post it there so that I don't annoy my friends

I suggest perhaps the next time anyone posts something like this,.....just stop & think.....what would Jaitea do?;)

LOL! No, not my rules, but this is how this thread has grown organically to a whopping 622 pages. Every trailer and interview and article contains a potential plot point. So it either you allow for a discussion of them or you don't as there is no reasonable way to ensure everyone has the same sensibilities...or doing as Jaitea would. :)

A spoiler is an element of a disseminated summary or description of any piece of fiction that reveals any plot elements which threaten to give away important details concerning the turn of events of a dramatic episode. Typically, the details of the conclusion of the plot, including the climax and ending, are especially regarded as spoiler material. It can also be used to refer to any piece of information regarding any part of a given media that a potential consumer would not want to know beforehand. Because enjoyment of fiction depends a great deal upon the suspense of revealing plot details through standard narrative progression, the prior revelation of how things will turn out can "spoil" the enjoyment that some consumers of the narrative would otherwise have experienced. Spoilers can be found in message boards, articles, reviews, commercials, and movie trailers.

Thank you for that fine Webster approved definition.

However, as Bryan mentioned, he was going off the rules set up for this particular thread.. not the broad definition of what a spoiler technically is. Also, he makes a good point in that it is becoming increasingly difficult to judge what each individual does or doesn't want to know about TFA.

Look, I love the spoiler thread... but since my tickets aren't till the 22nd, I'm going to check out of it after the release to save myself from the details that will pop up after it comes out. I don't expect others to keep quiet... I'll just stay away till after I've seen it. In my view it's all speculation up till now anyway, except for things like this which come straight from the production team.

oh ya beat me
My comment was about spoilers in general. I think it's pretty clear that my post wasn't being specific to one particular spoiler posted in this thread.

I said "...whether it's by full blown spoilers or dropping hints here or there," not so-and-so posted this or that. The OP that I quoted might've been specific, I purposely kept my response general.

I stand by what I said in my post.

(The tidbit about Gwen Christie belongs in the Episode 8 thread more than it belongs in this thread regardless of the source material).

Some folks live by their own rules or make their own rules without regard of others.

Some folks chose to read the rumors and the spoilers - and they choose to drop these tidbits throughout this thread without regard to folks that are trying to be go through this with a minimal spoilers. They don't care that there's another thread.

I really hope they keep Ahsoka out of the live action movies. That would be the biggest, most fan-service-y thing they could do to this franchise.

And if they were absolutely hell-bent on getting her into live action, please not in 7-9.

Well first of all, I simply said that I had (in my fan-boy mind) envisioned a cool meeting between Luke and Ahsoka at some point. A sort of like a "Hey, I knew your Dad and he was a pretty cool guy when I knew him" kind of thing. She could have also been sort of a mentor to him or at least a link to the jedi of the past. I was thinking this back way before we knew much about TFA. Why? Because I think Ahsoka was a pretty cool character who got dumped on in TCW. So, at that time, a year or two ago, I thought it would be nice to find out the mystery of her disappearance in episodes 7-9. I know there is a huge age gap, but we don't know how long-lived the Togruta species is. As I mentioned earlier, at the time, I didn't know that they would continue her story arc in the Rebels series. Now that I know that, I am cool with it.

With that being said, we are being given a film with Luke, Leia, Han, Chewie, the Millennium Falcon and all this other cool stuff and you have to point out that putting Ahsoka in would be the biggest fan-service-y thing in the franchise. :facepalm

I would love it if she were in the new series. Because this was always Anakin's story, it would help continue that idea

It's only been Anakin's story since the late '90s when Rick McCallum got involved. He steered that interpretation of the saga through the Special Editions and Prequels. Back in the production of the OT, those films were From the Adventures of Luke Skywalker (and Vader wasn't Anakin until after the first film was out), and the notes that would become the Prequels were From the Adventures of Obi-Wan Kenobi. Anakin was always a supporting character, who got retconned into the central focus through bad writing. We don't know yet if the Powers That Be are going to continue that or quietly steer things back to what they were before. Either way, careful throwing absolutes like "always" around, especially when the historical record point other directions. ;)

I was thinking those flame throwing storm trooper's were a cool new addition when I realized maybe we haven't seen them before but the must have been around because some one lit up good ol' uncle Owen on the farmstead way back in ANH.

Well I would hardly call including characters in a trilogy that is a continuation of the trilogy they were originally featured in "fan service". It just makes sense.

There's a throughline all the way back to the Clone Wars. We saw these guys in action in the Prequel era:

and these guys in the Force Unleashed (which takes place a couple years before ANH, and I like to think a lot of elements from it are likely still around, even if the story isn't canon):

So 'ol George has seen it and apparently really likes it and will attend the premier.

Ben

KK said he liked it. I'd rather hear it for him. What else would Lucasfilm say?

I don't think she would say it if it wasn't accurate. She could just say nothing and announce he saw it and will be at the premier. That would have been some validation at least post GL's previous comments.

All I know is that given the debate around defining a spoiler, I figger I should leave this thread quietly

Speaking of spoilers, Harrison Ford just tweeted one. So unless you go on media blackout, there's an inevitability you will come across what some may consider spoilers now that we are less then 13 days out. And I why personally I think a draconian view of spoiler avoidance while trying to be engaged in social media is foolhardy. You can make it almost to the end and then it's all for naught.

KK repsonds to the misinformed who are calling TFA a reboot...
