Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Pre-release)

The fact that reviewers will not get a pre-release look at TFA, is not a new thing. Producers have done this before for much-anticipated films - films that had pretty much guaranteed huge opening weekends and were considered to be long distance runners in the box office numbers. I know the reviewers will cry foul (I know, I was one in the 70s and 80s in the SF Bay AREA. I would get all indignant if I wasn't invited to a critics showing. That was before all the bloggers on the internet (Heck, that was before the internet!). The blogger, particularly the ones zoned in on Sci-Fi films, will be rending their garments and threatening to have their reader boycott the film if they don't get an invitation to a press screening. But, you know what? That won't do any good. Threatening never does any good. When producers decide to keep the wraps on a film before release, they have weighed all the options and know they have a winner, no matter what the press and fan-boy bloggers have to say. Why should some select group of whiny d-bag individuals have a chance to see the film before the real fans? I think Disney is showing some backbone. I can wait a few days.

1. What kinda stuff?

2. Shouldn't NEW stuff be in the spoiler thread?

I need a definition of what a 'spoiler' entails. It can't be the same thing to everyone. People throw around spoiler and I never know what to make of it. Is the photo of Rey on my Spaghettios I haven't seen before a spoiler?

For some people, "spoiler" includes any and all information about anything, including the mere existence of a movie.

If I don't stumble into the theater at random with no idea what I'm about to watch, it's not a REAL film-going experience!

In general, the distinction between the threads on here is -- anything gleaned from the officially-released teasers, trailers, posters, TV spots, magazine articles, and "looks inside" that are airing in broad release aren't "spoilers", per se. They're just advertising/marketing for the film. Anything that comes from "inside sources", leaks, and rumors is over in the Spoilers thread, as it can potentially contain stuff that isn't meant to be general knowledge and could forwarn of any big twists.

Some things blur the line. For instance, a few pages back (when the US trailer hit), there was much speculation and argument over who Rey was crying over. It ran the gamut from Han to Chewie to Finn to Poe. Because Han's been rumored to die in this film since Harrison was announced to have been cast, that lent weight to those who claimed it was Dead Han in that shot. Others dissected the shot more carefully and determined that it's almost certainly Finn, almost certainly badly wounded, and absolutely certainly not dead, so no spoilers in the trailer, and the rest is conjecture. But those who had managed to miss the "Han dies" rumors for the year-plus beforehand took the speculation badly. But whether Han dies or not, come December 18th (or earlier, because we can't have a proper midnight release any more in this country), one chunk of the audience is going to be going "ha! I knew it!", regardless of the fact that nothing actually from the production has given us any info.

But those who don't even want to know as much as is in the trailers (which undoubtedly only give us glimpses into the first 30%-40% of the film, and none of the climax, I'm willing to wager) should probably avoid even this thread.

I wondered about that. I can't tell if it's some sort of weird electrostaff (kinda hope it's not) or if Finn just damaged whatever weapon the trooper was holding.

In the briefing shot, I'd almost say that's Donald Sutherland on the left if I didn't know better! Lol! And is that Ackbar on the right or just perhaps a random Mon Calamari?
