Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Pre-release)

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

I'd love to see Spielberg finally get his hands on directing one of these (he'd be the most appropriate choice I believe) and I am looking forward to someone other than Lucas writing the script.

Not a chance - I think he proved with KotCS that he can't do these kinds of movies anymore. In his old age he just no longer has the light touch required.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

The original cast might be more excited to coming back with Lucas off their backs now, haha!

Wasn't that one of their gripes was his direction?

Who knows... Putting this in the hands of very passionate people will probably make something very special that we've been waiting for.

I'm looking forward to this trilogy!

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

"I don't like bullies."

I'll take that over Iron Man, Luke and Anakin any day.

I wasn't aware he wrote the script, developed the character, or delivered the line. Much like Captain America itself, he's not....bad exactly, just workman-like, and a little listless. SW has had enough of "not bad exactly" for the last decade and a half. If this absolutely HAS to happen, I'd prefer to see it happen under some strong guidance.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

I don't mind cameos from Luke, Leia, and Han but if we're going to get Iron Man/Avengers style movies I hope the new trilogy focuses on the next generation.

I have never cared to see the further adventures of the OT gang after Jedi, I feel like their story has been told. With the PT, we got the parents generation with Anakin and Padme. With the OT we got the next generation with Luke and Leia. I'm totally on-board with the NT (new trilogy) being about the next generation, with cameos from the older generation.

I do want to see the droids, and Chewbacca, and with fan-driven directors and Disney I'm sure they will be in the new movies.

With Lucas, he was the creator and in many ways 'too close' to the material. With a new generation of directors like Joss Whedon or Kevin Smith or whoever, those guys are fans who grew up loving the movies and loving the characters and they really want to make something that is true and amazing that they love as a fan.

I think Solo should be gone...Leia could be a CG improved hologram only..and Luke can be a mystic in robes. A few appearances could tie it in to the OT.

Chewbacca could be home with Lumpy celebrating <choke> the holidays. :p

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Droids? Sure. Chewbacca? No thanks. His cameo in ROTS was bad enough.

Well he was 200 years old in ANH....

As long as they make a new costume that actually looks like Chewbacca, and give him something to do instead of just stand around and give Yoda piggy-back rides.

Though I like the stuff they do, I think it would be unwise to have them direct a Star Wars movie.

Personally I don't like "fans" to direct movies. Just look what happened to the Terminator and Predator franchise. Directors who are fans does not equal good quality movies, but for the most part just expensive fan movies.

There were too few astromech and protocol droids in the PT. That was supposed to be the height of indulgence and opulence and there was barely anything other than R2 and C-3PO. And then a bunch of crap-droids that are never seen again in the OT.

With the new stories they could bring in the droid menace. Build on why nobody liked droids in the OT. But for heaven's sake... nothing like Grievous.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Whedon has his hands full right now with Marvel properties. I don't think he'll be involved in Star Wars.

I'd rather see someone like Duncan Jones given a shot at it. Another director I like is Michael J. Bassett, who did Solomon Kane, and the new Silent Hill. I think he could make a great star wars film.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Everyone is overlooking a crucial element:

Will John Williams be on board? If not, then no matter how entertaining, these will never feel like "real" Star Wars to me.

But that's OK, I guess. I'll still have 'my' Star Wars, and I can enjoy these too, just at a different level.

He's getting up there, I don't know.

I think the best we can hope for is for someone to do their best Williams impression.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

John Williams is a master of the subtle... the inbetweens of the major scores... the quiet parts that lead into the bombastic overtures.

Just listening to the efforts on Superman scores done by different composers/conductors... they simply lack the quiet moments... the small things... the wide range... and they just go for the themes and play them loud and long and it ultimately just sounds like noise.

You can recognize the Williams conducted Superman score ANYTIME over the rest. It has the magic.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

I think if they keep enough of the original cues they'll be alright. This is a whole new Star Wars after all.

Just PLEASE not Zimmer. :behave

Giacchino isn't bad.
