...and still no new Trailer.
Yep, and there is absolutely nothing to indicate when we are going to get it, its gone dead quiet, not even a rumour now.
As has been pointed out to me a huge amount of info about the film is already out there, mostly thanks to "Force Friday" . All the main and many of the secondary characters and their details, high def pictures of alot of the craft, key weapons, environments etc. There has never been a film release in my memory where an entire day was given just to the previewing, discussion of and then release of just merchandise connected to a film. But there is no doubt social media has hugely changed the way such things are managed and events like this promoted.
In truth when you look at it from that perspective there have been few films released where really we have seen and already know so much about whats going to be in it .The merchandise tie ins with this film have been vastly larger than even I expected it to be , I don't know what the actual sales figures are but it all looks to have been highly successful. Everybody wants a BB 8 it seems and thats three months before the damn film has even hit.
The only reason I can think of that they are sitting on it is for the marketing. The Xmas Toy buy starts almost as soon as half term starts and Halloween ends in the UK, so I wouldn't be surprised to see them release it mid october, just to boost interest and retail sales. Rebels is hitting on the 14th Octo, they may try with a tie in with or just after at or around the sixty day mark. They certainly seem to be setting up the cinema release dates with prebookings for seats with that in mind and looking for more than a few box office breaking records as well. Imax screens alone are booked solidly for four weeks by Disney in anticipation of demand.
But whilst I hugely admire their marketing strategy to recoup their outlay on the franchise purchase as swiftly as possible , as a SW fan IT IS starting to grate MASSIVELY that they have left the trailer release as late as this. Its not as if there is any other particular reason although I guess if they go with just one very late trailer, we won't get the other two varients as is normal these days and if prebooks are huge then we won't see so many TV spots.
Baring in mind "Star Wars Battlefront" will be hitting release 18th November and they are hoping to shift nine to ten million units of that by May16, thats going to be the next peak of interest particularly with the Battle of Jakku connection after the trailer . If they leave it too late towards the end of October then they are going to bump up against the Halo 5 release and that would steal the alot of thunder.
I'd just like to say DO IT NOW before you drive too many of us to the darkside in just simple frustration.
