Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Pre-release)

Yeah, espcially since we over here in Europe (at least in my country of Luxembourg) seem to have gotten the short end of the stick.
Force Friday? Most stores never heard of it! New merch? October maybe?
New SW books? Sorry, we'll stock them when the film is released. Apart from one TFA Lgfo set, I've yet to see a single new release in any store over here...
It's driving me NUUUUUUUUUTTTTTTTSSSSS!

I hear what you are saying and it does seem like a large proportion of the SWTFA merchandise seems to be going to the Disney stores and currently the States but thats their market. You just can't fault their business model. They're just ensuring that the bulk of the profits will go towards paying off what they paid for the IP and Lucasfilm.
If you think about it they are already getting a huge tax credit for making it in the UK ( in the millions) to offset production costs. They own the company thats producing the special effects (lets not forget they own Lucasfilm). They terminated Dark Horses contract in 2015 and SW went back to Marvel comics. They're selling the toys that they have sold the production licenses for. TFA is going to dominate the Xmas and New Year
If I were a Disney stockholder I'd be a very happy person indeed, given how Marvel, Pixar and Lucasfilm will do this year (despite Tomorrowland)

My absolute biggest wish would be for one of those custom printed 3d Stormtroopers with your scanned head on it, which they sometimes offer to produce at events. But I never get to be in such a place... :-(

How about cutting your head off and shipping to someone who is attending one of these events to get one made for you? :D

It showed up on our doorstep last year and you would not believe how much my daughter loved it! She drooled over it for months. It was heartwarming.

But this year, there isn't a single action figure. There's tons of barbies but no "boys toys"

Personally, I think they should take a cue here and not even bother with another trailer until the movie comes out. Our appetite is wet enough.

Well, if it's a full fledged catalog like they used to do, they have to have all the photos and layout done back over the summer sometime to get it all printed, bound, and ready to be able to ship in September. Good chance that nothing newer was available at that time for them to shoot, or that they don't want photos of certain things out at that time.

Now, if it was just a flier in the sunday paper type thing, that's different. Though, these days, if i'm buying toys, Sears isn't exactly on the list of places i'd consider looking.

It's the whole wishbone catalogue.

But there aren't ANY action figures. No star wars, transformers or superheroes.

It's almost like it's missing three pages

Seriously they would sell out theaters everywhere if all they ever showed anyone was a title and release date. That's how powerful Star Wars is and they know it.

Well JJ clearly said we wouldn't get a new trailer until this fall so I don't know why anyone would expect it before then. Fall starts next week so I'd suspect we'll get one within the next month or so. Frankly, I don't think it's needed though.

Well obviously we'd like to see more footage but with less than three months to go until the movie itself comes out, we'll be seeing more soon enough.

In many ways I'm kind of glad the trailers and behind the scenes have been so minimal. Even for non-diehard fans, star wars sells itself with most. I want to go into this not knowing plot details or what to expect exactly. Like you get with a lot of movies now a days. The films today, short of major twists or the exact ending are the only things missing.

I felt with the prequels, that, in addition to simply knowing what had to happen, they put too much info out there before the movies were out. Someone should have lost a job of the soundtrack in my opinion. Seriously? Name a track 'Death of Qui Gon'? Put it on the outsides of the case where everyone can see and put it in stores 6 weeks out? Brilliant move.

And that's just the blatantly obvious. There were plenty of examples.

Yes, yes, we get you want to capitalize on the hype ahead of time - but you can do it without giving things away, too.

I'm glad they've said jack for the most part about the story and they've shown very little in the trailers, just enough to get people excited...leave it at that. I'm fine with no more trailers until the movie is out.

Im at that point now as well, the rumor was last week it was coming out and I figured I waited so long and we are so close not to even watch the trailer, u till after I saw the movie

like others have said the teasers have given us a good idea of what to expect "practical effect" wise. Might as well wait for dec

Yeah, I think we have to remember that the whole point of a trailer is to promote a movie and build up hype. Studios don't release them "just because". With a franchise like SW we have the fairly rare instance where the movie will sell itself and hype is self-generating. Some movies genuinely need a few trailers to get the word out, however in the case of TFA I am glad we aren't being inundated with spoiler-filled trailers as seems to be increasingly common these days. We aren't owed anything really.

My guess is Disney will want the trailer to scream "We're not making the prequels' mistakes this time! It won't be Disney'ed up either! We're going OT this time, we swear to God!"

The average person does not follow movies like we do. They DO still need to be convinced of the really basic stuff about this new trilogy.

IIRC, they usually don't give directors control of their own trailers. That's why trailers for even the best movies tend to crudely pump action & sex & provocation at the audience for 2 minutes.

If I was Disney, I might give JJA more leeway than normal to do his own thing with a SW trailer. Most of the audience is gonna show up either way. A more mature & artsy & un-revealing trailer might draw in a few more people from a different crowd.

The average public knows next to nothing about this new trilogy though.

Are Han, Luke, Leia, and Chewie back? Like really starring in it, not just 30-second cameos? Is George Lucas really not doing it this time? John Q. Citizen does not already know all this stuff.

As for prequel mistakes -

The trailers are not a great way to get that message across. Trailers favor money-shots and that means heavy CGI even with this movie. And it probably won't be running long enough talking clips to get across whether the acting/dialogue is good.

The trailers will kill any residual fears that Disney has "Disney'd it up" with cute signing animals & annoying jokes aimed at grade schoolers. At least that base should be covered well.
