Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Pre-release)

I was just looking through a gallery of PT images and I realized something: nobody we've seen in the TFA teasers has the really, really stupid hair that permeated the PT. I know the costumes get a lot of praise, and GL wanted attention drawn to them for whatever reason, but so many of the costumes, and the freaking hair, are over designed and foolish looking. I'm not trying to start a PT bash here, just saying, I'm glad nobody looks like a runaway from a third rate kabuki camp. Other than Leia's famous buns, everyone in the OT walked on set with their normal hairdo like they just got yanked off the beach and told to film a movie. Really added to the verisimilitude imo.

He says "my sister has it" slower in ROTJ and his voice is older in the new trailer, although Mark Hamill is doing a great job of sounding like Luke, which sounds silly as he is Luke, but his voice has changed as he has aged, like everyone, but he does a great job sounding like ROTJ Luke.

And you can hear mechanical background when "my son" is said and along with the Vader breath there is a faint echo of each of Luke's words.

Listen carefully and you can hear James Earl Jones "my son"

No, that's not Vader saying "My Son". What you're hearing is a lower ghostly echo saying the same thing Luke is saying. He says the force is strong in my family and the whisper repeats it. Listen to it again what you're thinking is the word "son" is the word "strong". It does the same thing for his other lines, My father has it, my sister has it, etc.

And Mark confirmed at his panel he re-recorded the exact lines form ROTJ but they used his original film dialogue and layered his current recording underneath that in the audio mix.

I grabbed a couple of from the 4K screen grabs and boosted the midtones a bit.

Here are the Chrometrooper & the First Order Star Destroyer with improved visibility.

At first I thought the SD was just a modified Imperial II, but now it looks different. It seems bigger, with more tiers on the top.
Several discernible gun emplacements along the edge too.

I can't quite wrap my head around the star destroyer. there's some oddities that look a little off. So the bottom half sticks out further than the top half?

Yeah, it appears the new destroyers have an underbite of sorts.

Nobody is pointing one of the first things that jumped out at me. At the front tip of the bottom level there is a huge fin sticking out. It seems to be re-enforced along the hull 2-3 times the length of the portion that sticks out and it extends above and below the section a bit.

... Is this a ramming tool?

It's a massive can opener

Lol! Yeah, I have no clue what it is. Could be a ramming tool (seems unlikely), a cutting edge sensor suite, or just something that looks neat.

That just makes it easier for them to get that thing up to Ludicrous Speed.

By the way, here's something I can't recall having seen mentioned. What if Luke had been training Leia as a Jedi, and she not only turned to the Dark Side but was so powerful that she became the leader of whatever regime the former Empire has evolved into?

Over in the spoiler thread we may have an answer for that. :)

You know what, with all the buzz around this, and even though I liked the first trailer and the second one giving me a tear and goosebumps all over ..

I can't help but trying to not have high expectations for the movie as much as I'd want to! That way, I will be much less disappointed if it doesn't end up being what we wished to have!!

Another thing that I find incredible is how we lack haters for the trailers!!! Normally, we should have a lot more complaints .. JJ definitely accomplished something here ...

Gotta keep my expectations low .. Gotta keep them low .. Gotta ...

Give into the fan side. Let the fandom flow through you.

Here's where I'm at with this one...

I'm really putting myself out there this time. I'm ready to love again. After an abusive relationship more than a decade ago, I've finally remembered that not all Star Wars is bad Star Wars. So this time I feel like I've finally found a Star Wars that will treat me right and really take care of me.

However, if this Star Wars hurts me again, because of how much of my heart I've put into this, I will be crushed emotionally for the rest of my life.

I think it's just the RPF'ers are generally a good bunch, I am terribly worried about what jj and disney are going to do to my favourite franchise, based on many things but I don't chime inbecause I don't want to be "the negative nellie" and detract from other's happiness with this movie so far.

Weird thing though is it appears that I was the only one who like the PT

Tom

I wish more people would think that way. Not that opinion sharing, one way or the other, is a bad thing. But sometimes it does get overbearing. From both sides I'm sure, but I'm usually the defender so I only really know what it's like from that side.

But they are no original trilogy.
