Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Pre-release)

Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens

If I were a guessing man, it's Von Sydow... if I were to further guess, if this is a line from the film, it's spoken to Daisy Ridley's character (or maybe Boyega).

Am I the only one that thinks Ridley looks a whole lot like Natalie Portman in this? Not suggesting there is correlation storywise.

Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Well I got to say, I thought It was going to be a lot better... If it wasn't a SW movie, I probably wouldn't go see it.

Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens

It looks great to me. I even like the droid. The shot with the Xwings was really cool. No ships in space. I was expecting to see at least one epic space battle shot, and a reveal of Luke or Han. I kind of like that they didn't do that though too.

Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Ah crap......I'm having those star trek feelings again.

I saw jjtrek at a media screening several days before it came out and was awestruck. I thought, "this is what star trek needs to be"

But then I saw it again and the emperor suddenly, had no clothes.

The more I watch the trailer, the more I'm getting that dreaded thought. (The dizzying falcon shots are the biggest culprit)

Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Thank gawd Abrams decided to cast Garry Coleman as a Jedi......phew...otherwise this movie would blow! :p

on a serious note......I will give it a fair chance knowing that the generation who grew up loving the OT and the generation that grew up on the Prequels, will both find something to love in this film :)

Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens

I had some hopes-- but this looks cheap. Design that falls back on McQ and Johnston, but with someone needing to 'put their stamp on it' (and poorly, the rest looking like bad video game art is now the level of design for SW), continuity issues, a pilot who looks like he should be in Hardware Wars or at best Pink Five with his get-up, cheap Trooper armor, fighters that look like their wings should have done that lame pod-racer gag and shot off in all directions when the engines fire up, a Falcon that left its mass somewhere (and really, someone thinks that could be practical? Really?), the crappiest lightsaber design I've seen (and I've had to sit through a few), a crappy 4th wall droid that might at best hold up in context (but if all it does is run around and stare at the digital camera...) What a load. Didn't think things could be much worse than the JW trailer.

It is definitely not Max Von Sydow...

Astoundingly wrong. This film is going to be amazing.

It's Serkis.

I'm a vocalist and own a high end pro tools workstation... I recognize voices and plug ins.

Just wait and see its BC. Not the other 2.

All bets are off man! With today's digital jiggery pokery it could even be Whoopi Goldberg!

Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Can't say I'm too impressed with the size/proportions of the new X Wing pilot helmet. Man, that's gotta hurt like hell donning and doffing the thing. Rip your ears right off kind of tight.

And I'm wondering what the reasoning (if any) is behind the Trooper blasters being two tone?

From a distance it's hard to tell if they are armed?

LOL!!!

It's Serkis.

Not Serkis. Totally convinced it's Cumberbatch. JJs pulling a fast one on us. I hope I'm not wrong.

Although Serkis can pretty much sound like anything, ain't that right precious?

Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens

My impressions of the teaser-

Unlike a lot of posts I've read here, I actually loved the fact that none of the ship shots were in space. We've seen the Falcon dodge asteroids and Star Destroyers before. The best effects sequence in the OT for me was the asteroid field, because we finally got to see what a kicka** pilot Han was. Granted, I would probably pay to watch test footage of the Falcon flying in different environments, but to see the attempt to put her in an atmosphere battle, low enough to the deck that she is causing a ground effect, is something amazing. Likewise with the X-wing shot and the surface effect on the lake. All we could see before was the starfield behind the ships. I'm curious about Dennis Muren's reactions to the effects footage.

I felt that the Falcon didn't look as CG'd as it did in the special edition edits, but on the first watching, I will say that the rear end looked odd, mostly because of the camera angle. I didn't catch the lense flare until reading about it here, so, to my opinion, it looks like he's t least trying to keep it in the same design aesthetic of the McQuarrie paintings. That, more than anything, made me feel like it belonged.

The Broadsaber- no real opinions on that. I'll wait to see how it figures in.

Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens

It very most certainly is... I'm going to say that it will supercede Avatar, and rock our world!

Considering I fell asleep during Avatar because I was so bored and annoyed at how derivative it was...I certainly hope it can supersede it. Awful, preachy, tedious little cartoon.
