Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Pre-release)

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Depends on how much the can begin doing now (animation/minatures/etc) and how much post. In 1-3 GL set 18 months for post. If principal photography is done in a month, it'd give them right about 18 months for post.

Then consider tech is 20 years farther along now than it was for E1...

Doesn't seem too ambitious to me. They aren't staring from scratch in may after all.

I'd also like them to keep even the cast under wraps if possible. Let nothing out. Not plot, no cast, period.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Wait. they start filming in MAY of 2014 for a December 2015 release? That seems...ambitious. Doable, but ambitious.

Sounds like what I predicted might happen. It will get moved to the traditional May release in 2016. There will be some announcement about "wanting to get it just right, for the fans."

I know kids today seem to like the prequels. A young kid I work with likes them better than the originals. (bad parenting obviously, lol)

My thought on this is, the prequels still can't be as good as the originals, because even though kids like the prequels, they don't like them NEARLY as much as EVERYONE liked the originals back in the day. Star Wars seemed to take over EVERYTHING.

Of course, I am not sure if anything ever will be able to take over like that again. There are just too many options. Sometimes I wonder if it's for the best. It's nice to be able to find an outlet for even the fan of the most obscure, but it seems like they only accomplished opening up more avenues for companies to roll out mindless crap for profit.

Or do I just sound like the old guy yelling get off my lawn. (not that there is anything wrong with that. you should stay off it! lol)

I hope JJ makes something special.

I think the chances of them pushing back the Dec. release date are incredibly low. Disney is a marketing juggernaut and there are so many moving pieces which need to be coordinated for a release of this magnitude that they will be seriously disinclined to deviate from there already delayed time table. This is a publicly traded company with the biggest film release in over a decade.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Any reason why they wouldn't just get Caroline Blakiston to play her again? She isn't deceased and still acting in productions. Or are they looking for another annual Oscar nod to Judi Dench?

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

I don't know. I saw her at CV a few years ago and she said that was her last US convention because it was getting too hard to travel. She was sooooo sweet but looked very frail.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

So many rumors include Fassbender and Cumberbatch, but two I haven't heard in any rumors are Mads Mikkelsen and Karl Urban. I would love to see both of them in a Star Wars movie.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

I’m confident they will make the deadline. With ST. Into Darkness the principle photograph started on Jan 12th 2012, finished May 16th and a year later hit the release date. The budget is roughly the same at $200 million.
Considering how many of the same people will be working on the new film I’d say the exceptional number of very experienced Star Wars players on the bench fills me with a lot of confidence that the end product will be very good.
The fact they seem to have taken their time with the script, the rumoured standalones being planned, and the care with which the casting process seems to have gone all indicate that this franchise is being specifically tailored to hit ALL the generational expectations of Star Wars fans.
Why??? Because the success of Marvel proves that a series managed well and directed by film makers who were fans of the original stories can result in a hugely profitable venture for everyone. And Disney want to repeat that. God knows they paid enough for the privilege.
Moving George into the background so he is free to “advise“, giving the films creation to a more self challenging production team, listening to all the criticism that gone before arguable makes the case for the film beating most peoples expectations more likely than not.
I think we will see a pared down Star Wars in comparison to the prequels, but quite a few steps up in terms of action from the originals. Given just how open the SW universe is left at the end of Jedi, the ability of the “force dead” to be seen by the living, the time that has gone by in that universe and the relationships that can have been made (and broken) then I think we’ll all have a pretty good time with it.
If you look at the levels of hype surrounding this film now can you imagine what its going to be like in eighteen months time?
This is going to be a juggernaut.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

I think that if they're going to be used in the story line, they're going to HAVE to play themselves as the older versions of their characters...

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Until it comes out as an announcement from LucasFilm/Disney itself...it's all just rumor to me. Plus, Carrie Fisher isn't exactly the most...reliable source.
