Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Pre-release)

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

No more Ewoks, please...as a matter of fact, I'm for clear-cutting that big forest of theirs right now, yeah, that's it: let's re-decorate their environment once and for all:devil

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

After Into the Darkness I fear JJ is just going to defacate on SW in ways nobody can imagine.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

I really want to believe it. He's the exact age I was when I watched SW so it's plausible. But part of me says it's not surprising in the wake of Trekkie reception of Into the Darkness that he would post a scripted interview for damage control and to attenuate growing skepticism. He's also an astute salesman. I'm suspicious only because he's saying EXACTLY the right thing that could restore my faith in him. I really want to believe him.

Good. Use your aggressive feelings, boy. Let the hate flow through you.
Flow?

I've got an explosive case of hate cholera spilling through me.

Say what you want about the new Trek movies - I liked them both personally - but JJ is a self-proclaimed non-Trek fan...he was brought on to those movies to bring in the wider audience more so than the trekkie/ers. But he is a Star Wars geek, and as such, he knows what the fans would want. If I were a betting man, I'd put my money on him to make a good Star Wars movie.

Well the first promising rumor I've heard was that he may be planning to shoot on film instead of digitally in order to recapture some of the original look. If that's true then he's starting to win me over. We'll see.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

No confirmed cast on IMDb. Latest I've heard is that shooting starts in April. Presumably they will announce more news before then.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Apparently the Boba Fett standalone film has been written by Lawence Kasdan. Rejoice!

That one will start with a scene of Boba taking a shower and his wife walks in and is startled because he's alive. It was all a dream. :lol

This could be extremely bad*ss if it has a good story!

I'll take Ewoks over Gungans any day of the week. I'll spill oil in the ocean of Naboo and kill all life in it if it prevents another Gungan from surfacing and ruining another three movies.

If that's the only pre-requisite you're looking for, all hope is lost.

I like what JJ did for Trek, but it's not necessarily an accurate recreation of the "feel" or the "atmosphere" of the original series but rather a stylish, hip reimagining. Young, attracive people, smooth/shiny sets, cool effects.

If they apply that same approach to Star Wars it'll be horrible. Granted Trek was a "reboot" and SW is a continuation, but...

I should explain what I meant.

Folks I know who saw SW in the theater as teens seem to appreciate the franchise differently than folks who grew up already knowing ROTJ or even ESB, for that matter. I'd like to think JJ might possibly understand SW the way I did. I could be wrong but one can always hope.

Well the first ST film was pretty good, but In The Darkness really was a miss for me. It felt like the product of someone without any natural affinity for the core material. I won't go into the details now because I posted them before and it's approaching midnight right now.

JJ has been saying he's more a SW fan as a kid and didn't get all the trekkie stuff. At first I thought it was just lip service to SW fans. But then I started to look up some of his early interviews prior to the ST reboot to see if he was trying to sell himself as a loyal trekkie at the time.

I was pleased to see that he didn't - i.e. that he's consistent with his latest statements that he's always been more into SW than ST.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Well, when you think about it, his first Star Trek movie was a REMAKE of Star Wars episode IV.

A young farmboy finds out that he has a destiny greater than he could have ever imagined. (Luke = Kirk)

A wise older mentor shows him the wonders of the galaxy and helps him accept his destiny. (Obi-Wan = Pike)

He steals away on a ship to find his adventure (Falcon = Enterprise)

In order to make a point the villian destroys a planet. (Alderran = Vulcan)

They meet up with a crack pilot in a run down dive (Solo = Scotty)

And his sidekick (Chewbacca = Little green lizard guy)

They have to sneak aboard the huge ship.....(Death Star = Romulan mining vessel)

To save the kidnapped princess/captain (Leia = Pike)

One man in a single craft destroys the 'death star/romulan vessel' (Luke in X-wing = Spock in Jellyfish)

And all are noted as heros. (Luke a cool medal = Kirk a cool ship)

So yea, we know that JJ can do Star Wars! he already has!
